This is a fictional production combining suspense, crime, thriller, and political drama that uses real images and is inspired by political events in Iran during the female student protests against the use of the hijab in 2022.

The protagonist is Imán, a lawyer and father who takes on a political position without knowing the consequences it would bring. At first, accepting this promotion brought happiness to his wife and two daughters, as they were able to live in a better place and obtain other economic benefits, but Imán soon realized that one of his duties was to sign sentences without knowing the case file and without a prior trial, which obviously led him into a personal conflict with his values, as he was a person of principles.

The problem is that once you are in this type of position, you can no longer resign because you know a lot of sensitive information and can be labeled a spy and a traitor. Iman continued with his duties and, due to the risk of his position, was given a gun. This gun is the key to the film because it is the basis of the plot. I have always thought that weapons, even if they are not used, are elements of violence and their energy does not bring anything good.

Returning to the story, Iman's daughters are two teenagers who have been raised according to the customs of their religion, which even prohibits them from wearing colored nail polish, which is seen as immoral. However, these girls have a rebellious friend who participates in protests and has been beaten and shot. Because of her, Iman's daughters get into trouble for wanting to help and protect her in their home.

While there are protests in the streets, Iman's family also lives in tension over the loss of the gun, and Iman has to justify where it is. He is pressured at work and feels betrayed by his family. The following scenes are psychologically stressful, and as a viewer, I feel torn: on the one hand, I identify with Imán and want to support him, feeling that he is a victim of circumstances because of his love for his family, but on the other hand, I empathize with his wife and daughters, understanding their behavior.

These types of films try to send a message to families, encouraging them to strengthen their foundations of love and trust and not let political views and doubts fracture them. Politics influences families more than can be seen in the movies.

I don't want to say too much and give away spoilers, but I can tell you what the trailer shows: Iman's family fractures when the weapon is lost, the women are interrogated, then everyone flees because they are socially exposed and end up in a family crisis in the mountains and ruins far from society. The ending hurt me a lot; I didn't expect it, it was cruel, and it left me with a void that made me think something was missing.

As an additional note, while searching for images for this post, I found information about the film's title that I couldn't make sense of in relation to the story. I usually like to associate titles with what I see, and in this case, I didn't understand its meaning. It turns out that the seed of the sacred fig refers to a fig tree that wraps itself around another tree until it strangles it, which is considered a symbol of the Iranian regime. Writer, producer, and director Mohammad Rasoulof was accused of repeatedly violating Iran's censorship in his films and sentenced to several years in prison, but he managed to flee to Europe with several cast members, although not everyone managed to escape.

The latter has nothing to do with the film, but I think it's important to mention that when we want to express ourselves, there will always be a way to do so. If you like films that mix fiction and some reality on political and war themes, you may like this film. I recommend it, but I should point out that it is not for everyone or for all audiences.

Es una producción de ficción, suspenso, crimen, thriller y drama político que usó imágenes reales y se inspiró en hechos políticos del gobierno de Irán durante las protestas estudiantiles femeninas contra el uso del hiyab en el año 2022.

El protagonista es Imán un abogado y padre de familia, que asume un cargo político sin saber las consecuencias que eso traería, al principio aceptar este ascenso trajo felicidad para su esposa y dos hijas porque pudieron vivir en un mejor lugar y tener otros beneficios económicos, pero pronto Imán se dio cuenta de que entre sus funciones estaban firmar sentencias sin conocer el expediente y sin un juicio previo, obviamente esto lo llevó a estar en conflicto personal con sus valores porque era una persona de principios.

Lo malo es que al estar en este tipo de cargos ya no se puede renunciar porque se conoce mucha información delicada y lo pueden etiquetar de espía y de traición, Imán siguió adelante con sus deberes y por el riesgo de su cargo le entregaron un arma. Esta arma es la clave fundamental de la película porque debido a ella se forma el argumento. Siempre he pensado que las armas aunque no se usen son elementos de violencia y su energía no trae nada bueno.

Volviendo a la historia, las hijas de Imán son dos adolescentes que han sido educadas bajo las costumbres de su religión, prohibiendo incluso aplicar esmalte de uñas de color, eso se ve como una falta a la moral, pero estas niñas tienen una amiga que es rebelde y participa en las protestas, la cual ha sido golpeada y baleada y por ella las hijas de Imán sé mente en problemas, por querer ayudarla y protegerla la mente en su casa.

Mientras hay protestas en las calles también la familia de Imán vive en tensión por la pérdida del arma, e Imán tienen que justificar dónde está, lo presionan en su trabajo y él se siente traicionado por su familia, las escenas a continuación son de estrés psicológico, y yo como espectadora me siento dividida, por un lado, me identifico con Imán y quiero apoyarlo, siento que él es una víctima de las circunstancias por el amor que le tiene a su familia, pero, por otra parte, siento empatía por la esposa y las hijas, entendiendo su comportamiento.

Este tipo de películas intenta enviar un mensaje a las familias, para que fortalezcan sus cimientos en amor y confianza y no se fracturen por visiones políticas y dudas. La política influye más en las familias de lo que se puede ver en el cine.

No quiero extenderme más de lo adecuado para no dar espóiler, pero puedo decirles lo que muestra el mismo tráiler, que la familia de Imán se fractura al perderse el arma, las mujeres son interrogados, luego todos huyen porque son expuestos socialmente y terminan en una crisis familiar en las montañas y en ruinas alejadas de la sociedad. Su final me dio mucho dolor, no lo esperaba, fue cruel y me dejó un vacío que me hizo pensar que algo faltaba.

Como dato adicional mientras buscaba las imágenes para este post, encontré información sobre el título de la película que no lograba darle sentido a la historia, por lo general me gusta asociar los títulos a lo que veo, y en esta oportunidad no entendía su significado, resulta que la semilla del higo sagrado hace referencia a un árbol de higo que se enrosca en otro hasta estrangularlo esto se considera un símbolo del régimen de Irán y el escritor, productor y director Mohammad Rasoulof fue acusado por violar la censura de Irán repetidamente en sus películas y condenado a varios años en prisión, pero logró huir a Europa juntos a varios miembros del elenco aunque no todos lograron huir 🥲.

Esto último no tiene que ver con la película, pero me parece importante mencionar que cuando queremos expresarnos siempre habrá un medio de lograrlo. Si te gustan las películas que mezclan ficción y algo de realidad sobre temas políticos y de guerra esta película te puede gustar, la recomiendo, pero aclaro que no es para todos los gustos ni para todo público.
