Greetings, dear film lovers, and blessed day to you. Today's review is of a cinematic gem entitled "The Breadwinner," which is very fitting for the story. It can also be translated as "the bread of war," and in both cases, it relates to the main theme of the film.

It is one of the few animated films I have seen, because I don't like cartoons. In fact, I was never a child who watched cartoons, as they are called in my country, but I must point out that the animation in this film is so beautiful that once you start watching it, you forget about the visual format and get caught up in the story.

Produced by Angelina Jolie, it was released in 2017, based on the novel of the same name by Deborah Ellis, inspired by real events, and won many awards and nominations, including Best Animated Feature at the 90th Academy Awards. A fantasy and drama, it managed to move me.

Plot

In 2001, Parvana, an 11-year-old girl, lives with her family, consisting of her father, mother, older sister and younger brother, in Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan, just as the war on terror begins. Her father was a former schoolteacher who became a street vendor after losing one of his legs in a previous Afghan war.

Parvana and her father went out every day to sell some personal items. I remember they had a very pretty girl's dress that belonged to Parvana, and although the girl loved her dress, she wanted to sell it to buy food, but her father always refused because he knew it was something his daughter cherished.

One day, they had an argument with a young Taliban who had been a pupil of Parvana's father, who swore revenge. That same night, during dinner, Parvana's father was unjustly arrested. Due to a Taliban law prohibiting women from going out without a male companion, the family is left without the possibility of selling on the street for their livelihood. The next day, Parvana decides to go and find her father in prison and, so that she would not go alone, her mother accompanies her, becoming the victim of a brutal beating that forces them to return home.

The days passed and they had no water or food left. Parvana tried to buy some, but no vendor wanted to deal with her for fear of reprisals. On her return, she decided to cut her long hair and transform herself into a boy in order to survive and support her family. This is where Parvana's story begins, now as Atesh, enjoying the advantages that men have, but with the firm goal of finding her father.

The family had to face a difficult time. The mother had to give her eldest daughter away in marriage against her will to ease Parvana's burden. With an imminent family split, they decided to risk everything they had to flee, amid chaos, pain and need. The resilience of a united family and love kept them going.

In conclusion, I do not know to what extent fantasy is separated from reality, but I want to believe that the ending was true. I admire the essence of that girl and her courage. The animation is so beautiful that it softens the harshness of some moments in life. The pastel colours and oval-shaped drawings are pleasing to the eye. As it is an animated production with many positive messages, I believe it can be watched by children. It also teaches them part of universal history and, with the guidance of parents and guardians, can help them develop a critical sense of the things that happen in life.

Saludos queridos cinéfilos bendecido día, la reseña de hoy es una joya cinematográfica que se titula “The breadwinner” que en español significa el sostén de la familia muy acorde con la historia, también es traducida como el pan de la guerra, en ambos casos los dos se relacionan con el tema principal de la película.

Es de las pocas películas animadas que he visto, porque no me gustan los dibujos animados, de hecho nunca fui una niña que viera comiquitas como se le dice en mi país, pero debo destacar que la animación de esta película es tan hermosa que una vez que comienzas a verla se te olvida el formato visual y te metes en la historia.

Producida por Angelina Jolie tuvo su estreno en el 2017, basada en la novela homónima de Deborah Ellis y que se inspiró en hechos reales, fue ganadora de muchos premios y nominaciones, entre ellos a la mejor película de animación en la edición 90 de los Premios Óscar. De género fantasía y drama logró tocar mi corazón.

Argumento

En el año 2001 Parvana una niña de 11 años, vive junto a su familia compuesta por su padre, madre, hermana mayor y un hermano menor, en Kabul la capital de Afganistán, justo cuando comienza la guerra contra el terrorismo. Su padre era un ex maestro de escuela que se convirtió en vendedor ambulante después de perder una de sus piernas en una guerra afgana anterior.

Parvana y su padre salían todos los días a vender algunos objetos personales. Recuerdo que tenían un traje de niña muy bonito que pertenecía a Parvana y aunque la niña apreciaba su vestido quería venderlo para comprar comida, pero su padre siempre se resistía porque sabía que era algo apreciado por su hija.

Un día, tuvieron una discusión con un joven talibán que había sido alumno del papa de Parvana esté juró vengarse y esa misma noche durante la cena, el papá de Parvana es arrestado injustamente. Debido a una ley de los talibanes que prohíben a las mujeres salir sin la compañía de un hombre queda la familia sin la posibilidad de vender en la calle para su sustento. Al día siguiente Parvana decide ir a buscar a su papá en la cárcel y para que no fuera sola su mamá la acompañó convirtiéndose en víctima de una brutal golpiza que las hizo regresar a casa.

Pasaron los días y ya no tenían agua ni nada para comer, Parvana intentó comprar, pero ningún vendedor quiso hacer trato con ella por miedo a represalias, al regreso se le ocurrió cortar su largo cabello y transformarse en un niño para sobrevivir y apoyar a su familia. Desde allí empieza la historia de Parvana ahora como Atesh disfrutando de las ventajas que tienen los hombres, pero con el objetivo firme de encontrar a su papá.

La familia se tiene que enfrentar a momento difícil, la mamá tuvo que dar a su hija mayor en matrimonio en contra de su voluntad para aliviar la carga de Parvana, con una inminente división familiar deciden arriesgar lo que tenían para huir todos, en medio del caos, dolor y necesidad la resistencia de una familia unida y el amor los mantuvo.

Para concluir no sé qué tanto se separa la fantasía de la realidad, quiero creer que el final fue verdad. Admiro la esencia de esa niña y su valentía. La animación es tan linda que permite suavizar lo duro que pueden ser algunos momentos de la vida, los colores pasteles y los dibujos de trazos ovalados son más amigables a la vista, por ser una producción animada y con muchos mensajes positivos considero que puede ser visto por niños, además que permite enseñarles parte de la historia universal y con la orientación de padres y representantes pueden crear un sentido crítico de las cosas que suceden en la vida.
