Greetings to all the movie lovers who make up the hive community. Today I want to share my review and opinion of the movie The Menu, which was released several months ago but which I saw recently. It is a thriller, dark comedy, and psychological horror film that addresses the eccentricities of the wealthy in relation to food.
It begins with a couple flirting with each other, which led me to believe that the man was courting the woman, but they were not yet dating. He invites her to enjoy a luxury dining experience reserved for only a few, paying more than a thousand dollars per person for the experience. The woman is astonished by the price, which leads me to believe that she is from a different social class.
All the people who reserved their spots are picked up at a port where they board a yacht to an unknown island. They are people of different ages and styles, including an older married couple, a trio of friends, a food critic and her assistant, and an actor with his manager, among others. The only thing they have in common is that they are millionaires and wanted to have an unforgettable experience.
The couple I described at the beginning are the protagonists. The man is a fan of food reality shows and admires the chef who directs the entire menu. The girl, played by Anya Taylor-Joy, is not excited about the dishes she will try or the great experience. She only went to work as a companion and wanted her pay. Maintaining that detached attitude toward all the supposed luxury is what allowed her to survive the chaos that ensued.

Saludos a todos los cinéfilos que hacen vida en hive, hoy deseo compartir mi reseña y opinión sobre la película El Menú, estrenada hace varios meses pero que vi recientemente, del género thriller, dark comedy y psychological horror aborda las excentricidades de los más ricos en relación a la comida.Inicia con una pareja con cierto coqueteo entre ambos, lo que me dió a entender que el hombre estaba cortejando a la chica, pero aún no eran novios, él la invita a disfrutar de una experiencia gastronómica de lujo reservado solo para unos cuantos, pagando por esa experiencia más de mil dólares por persona. La chica se asombra por el precio, lo que me hace entender que es de clase social diferente.
Todas las personas que reservaron su cupo son recogidas en un puerto donde embarcan en un yate hacia una isla desconocida, son personas de diferentes edades y estilos, están dos esposos mayores, un trío de amigos, una crítica gourmet y su asistente, también un actor con su manager entre otros, lo único que tienen en común es que son millonarios y querían pasar una experiencia inolvidable.
La pareja que describi al principio son los protagonistas, el hombre es fanático de los reality sobre comida, y admira al chef que dirige todo el menú. La chica que es protagonizada por Anya Taylor-Joy, no está emocionada ni por los platos que probará ni por la gran experiencia, ella solo fue a trabajar como dama de compañia y lo quería era su pago, mantener esa actitud desprendida de todo el supuesto lujo fue lo que hizo que sobrevivir al caos que se presentó luego.
Once the group arrived on the island, they realized they were cut off from communication and had to follow certain rules. Eighty percent of the story took place in the island's restaurant, where the chef, played by the great actor Ralph Fiennes, began his show by presenting each bite with a dark narrative describing its name and why it was called that. The first few were very eloquent and thoughtful, but little by little each dish became personal, that is, each story was murky, painful, and distasteful, which made Margot (Anya Taylor-Joy) stop eating and refuse to obey, being the first to realize that no one would leave that dinner alive.
As for the dishes, they were not eye-catching or the main focus of the film, as is often the case in other food films. Here, the main plot was the menu, its meaning, and the chef's feeling of loss regarding his passion, not feeling that his dedication to serving and creating was sufficiently valued, losing his sense of purpose in life. This enraged him because paying an excessive price for something does not mean that it is appreciated. This is a social critique of class inequality and the value given to some things that do not deserve it, even surpassing the love of life itself. It also exposes fanaticism towards a belief or person.
The menu has scenes that surprise and shock. I liked that they maintained a balance between suspense and comedy. There isn't much gore, which I also found appropriate. The ending made me think about empathy, and I ended up with a bit of a bad taste in my mouth, not because of the food but because of the moment and the emotion expressed by the protagonist while eating. You have to see it to understand what I mean. I recommend it if you like these genres, but it is not suitable for children.

Una vez que el grupo llegó a la isla, se dieron cuenta que estaban incomunicados y que debían seguir algunas reglas. El 80% de la historia se desarrolló en el restaurante de la isla, estando allí el chef caracterizado por el gran actor Ralph Fiennes comenzó su espectáculo al presentar cada bocado, con una narrativa oscura describiendo el nombre y el porqué se llamaba así, los primeros fueron muy elocuentes y reflexivos pero poco a poco cada plato se tornó personal, es decir cada historia era turbia, dolorosa y de mal gusto, eso hizo que Margot (Anya Taylor-Joy) dejara de comer y se negara rotundamente a obedecer, siendo la primera en darse cuenta que nadie saldría con vida de esa cena.En cuanto a los platos, no fueron llamativos ni lo principal de la película, como suele pasar en otras películas de comida, aquí el argumento principal fue el menú, su significado y el sentimiento de pérdida que sentía el chef respecto a su pasión, no sentir que su dedicación a servir y crear era lo suficientemente valorada, perdiendo el sentido de propósito en su vida, eso lo enfureció porque el que se pague un precio excesivo por algo no significa que sea apreciado, esta es una crítica social a la desigualdad de clases y al valor que se le dan algunas cosas que no se lo merecen, superando incluso al amor a la vida misma, también expone el fanatismo hacia una creencia o persona.
El menú tiene escenas que sorprenden e impactan, me gustó que mantuvieran un equilibrio entre el suspenso y la comedia, no hay mucho gore y eso también me resultó apropiado. El final me hizo pensar sobre la empatía, y terminé con un poco de asco en el paladar, no por la comida sino por el momento y la emoción que expresó la protagonista al comer, tienes que verla para que me puedas entender, la recomiendo si te gustan estos géneros y no son aptas para niños.
