Toxic Hearts – Emotional Dependency and Dangerous Games | Review and opinion
Welcome đź’– Bienvenidos

It’s typical during adolescence not to know how to manage emotions properly, and we end up doing things we later regret; that’s what Toxic Hearts is about – a turbulent relationship between two teenage girls. I wonder 🤔 how I ended up watching this film; all I know is that its eye-catching, colourful poster intrigued me.
The story centres on two teenage girls who ended up living together, and whose emotions and decisions ultimately destroyed their lives.

Corazones tĂłxicos - Dependencia emocional y juegos peligrosos
Elina was a girl with a rebellious look, with a shaved head dyed in extravagant colours; however, she was shy and introverted, thinking only of making music and dreaming of becoming famous one day. She was the only daughter of a divorced mother. On the other hand, there is Sofia, the only daughter of a widower; she is a dancer and leads a life of discipline and high standards. She wants to be successful and has the talent to achieve it, but her stepsister stood in her way.
These two young women meet through their parents, who begin a relationship and move in together. From the very first moment Elina saw Sofia performing, she fell in love, but she knew the girl wouldn’t return her feelings because of her different sexual orientation, so Elina initially settled for trying to be her friend and getting to know her better.
As they get to know each other, they realise each other’s weaknesses, tastes and obsessions. They end up depending on one another.
The film has a slow pace and at times I wanted to stop watching it; they maintained the sexual tension throughout the plot, but there were no explicit scenes. The directors sought to hold the viewer’s attention by tackling themes of sexual orientation, drugs, obsession and self-imposed pressure, but they failed to develop any of these themes properly, merely skimming over them.
This film isn’t for everyone; it’s aimed at young people, who will surely enjoy it. I must admit that the plot didn’t surprise me, but the ending was acceptable. I think they could have made more of the whole story, but they didn’t want to take any risks. It wasn’t a big-budget production; in fact, I noticed that the lead actresses wore the same outfits repeatedly and there were very few different settings.
If you’ve got nothing better to watch, you could give it a go, and bearing in mind that it’s aimed at a young audience, I’d give it a score of 70.
