Nimona: The impact of ignorance through control and fear (2023) Review [Eng - Esp]

Good afternoon, day, or evening to those readers who stopped by the title of this post and came in here, whether you are new to the platform whether you are old or even in-between, I admit it is good to be back to this nice community and in general. It's been a long time since I've been active here, and the truth is that now I have a certainly hectic lifestyle both for classes as well as work, therefore I have the time somewhat measured, although for now I'm more relaxed since I don't have so many responsibilities per se, but most likely I will be absent again soon, however I want to take this time to talk about today's movie.

I would like to talk about Nimona, yes I know it's been a while since it came out, but personally at the time I did not call my attention to see it, apparently in various networks I saw superficially that such a film mostly received good reviews, but still and with that I did not call my attention, until yesterday I wanted to give it a chance, and even more seeing that the Netflix platform allowed the upload of the film to the Youtube platform months ago, so I was in the mood to see how it turned out to be and the truth is that it really was not only entertaining but also turned out to have elements that I liked a lot such as fear, power, ignorance among others but I will address them in due course so ladies and gentlemen this time I bring you Nimona.

Buenas tardes, días, o noches a aquellos lectores que se pasaron por el título de este post y entraron aquí, ya sean nuevos en la plataforma ya sean viejos o hasta intermedios, admito que es bueno estar de regreso a esta linda comunidad y en general. Ha pasado un largo tiempo desde la última vez que he estado activo aquí, y la verdad es que ahora tengo un estilo de vida ciertamente ajetreado tanto por las clases así como el trabajo, por consiguiente tengo el tiempo algo medido, aunque por ahora estoy más relajado ya que no tengo tantas responsabilidades de por sí, pero lo mas probable es que pronto me vuelva ausentar, sin embargo quiero aprovechar este tiempo para hablar de la película del día de hoy.

Me gustaría hablarles de Nimona, si se que ha pasado tiempo desde que salió, pero en lo personal en su momento no me llamo tanto la atención para llegar a verla, por lo visto en diversas redes vi de forma superficial que tal película en su mayoría recibió buenas críticas, pero aun así y con eso no me llamo la atención, hasta que ayer pues quise darle una oportunidad, y más aun viendo que la plataforma de Netflix permitió la subida de dicha película a la plataforma de Youtube hace meses atrás, así que estaba de ánimos para ver que tal resulto ser y la verdad es que realmente no solo fue entretenida si no que también resulto tener elementos que me gustaron bastante tales como el miedo, poder, ignorancia entre otros pero ya los abordare en su momento así que damas y caballeros esta vez les traigo a Nimona.

Nimona is considered to be a computer-animated fantasy sci-fi adventure comedy film based on the comic book of the same name by ND Stevenson, directed by Nick Bruno and Troy Quane and written by Marc Haimes.

The film project suffered some delays, originally a production by Blue Sky Studios, a former subsidiary of 20th Century Fox, which is now owned by Disney, the current Disney leadership was not convinced with certain LGBT elements of the film which led to a strong rejection, which resulted in a delay and ultimately in a closure of Blue Sky in 2021.

However, on April 11, 2022 it was announced that Annapurna Animation, together with Dneg Animation, will take over the production and adjust the film to be released in 2023 on the Netflix platform.

Nimona es considerada como una película de comedia de aventura y ciencia ficción fantástica, animada por computadora y basada en el comic de su mismo nombre de ND Stevenson, dirigida por Nick Bruno y Troy Quane y escrita por Marc Haimes.

El proyecto de la película sufrió ciertos retrasos, originalmente era una producción por parte del estudio Blue Sky Studios una antigua subsidiaria de 20th Century Fox, la cual ahora pertenece a Disney, el liderazgo actual de Disney no estuvo convencido con ciertos elementos LGTB que tenia la película lo que la llevo a tener un fuerte rechazo, lo cual derivo en un retraso y al final en un cierre de Blue Sky en el 2021.

Sin embargo el 11 de abril del 2022 se anuncio que Annapurna Animation, recupero el proyecto junto con Dneg Animation llevando a cargo la producción y ajustando la película para ser estrenada en el 2023 en la plataforma de Netflix.

The plot focuses on the life of Ballister, a knight who unfortunately is accused of a tragic act he did not commit, desperately seeking a way to clear his name before such confusion eh driven by the collaboration and help provided by a girl named Nimona, which surprisingly has the ability to change its shape, however there is a reason behind all these acts that complicate the lives of both characters.

La trama se centra en la vida de Ballister un caballero que lamentablemente es acusado por un trágico acto que no cometió, buscando desesperadamente la manera de limpiar su nombre ante tal confusión eh impulsado por la colaboración y ayuda que le brindara una chica llamada Nimona, la cual sorprendentemente posee la habilidad de cambiar su forma, sin embargo hay una razón detrás de todos estos actos que complicaran la vida de ambos personajes.

At first I really did not have high expectations of the film, even though it has received such good reviews in various networks and social media, I only went with the intention of seeing it and take the opportunity that it was already on Youtube as simple as that and personally I'm glad it was so, since it not only left me a good impression in itself, it also showed several super important elements but also the way they are represented in the plot, not only for Nimona and Ballister for their situation but also for the kingdom itself and its inhabitants, but I would like to go through such specific elements in parts.

In a kingdom in which concepts such as protection and care are present, before threatening aspects such as monsters mainly, it is normal that in the same is given much importance to people in charge to take care of fulfilling and carrying out the responsibility with the intention of protecting it, I mean to be a knight. However the situation of Ballister our protagonist and a next knight to be initiated, changes when his life is sadly destroyed due to a plot in which he was not a participant and he is unjustly accused of such acts, it is due to this and his desperate means to clear his name that he meets Nimona. Nimona becomes the complement and the help that Ballister needs, even though at the beginning he was reluctant to the idea and even more knowing her transformation abilities, he tries to get to know her and learn more about her and what she represents, giving him the opportunity to trust her.

The action that Ballister takes before her is key, since at the beginning her physical changes made him feel uncomfortable and even partially scared, but with time he only realizes as they try to know each other that she is like any other (except for her abilities) that is only a victim of circumstances for being different, since he was also given a bad treatment as a child for being different but for a classism, this rejection is what unites them more and above all shows a great contrast with the thinking that is lived in the kingdom. We are shown throughout the film the importance and social weight, which involves being a knight despite being a time certainly very technologically advanced this ideal is very well marked, however the way in which this ideal was consolidated and shown to future generations was through danger and fear, to the ignorance of many things outside and especially the monsters themselves mainly.

It is normal that as human beings, at first instance about something we do not know we may feel rejection, fear, insecurity and other kinds of emotions that make us evaluate our situation in very general terms, but if we do not question or give us the opportunity to go into it, we can not have such a safe and broad view of it, this film reinforces that a lot, in how many people grew up with forced ideals of strength, protection, fear and ignorance at the convenience of others in the face of events that were unknown to them without even giving themselves the opportunity to question and have a broader logical thinking, to question whether what is lived is considered correct, Ballister was able to do so but it was through and thanks to Nimona. Nimona sadly was only a victim of such circumstances as well as Ballister also felt that before the prejudice of all towards him, this film shows us in broad strokes how powerful it can be fear and ignorance if carried even through generations, but also that we can break those schemes and be better however arduous and difficult it may be, it really is a film that I recommend.

The movie has good elements of animation, dynamism, colors and mansions, the atmosphere in how this unfolded was more than comfortable and I did not feel uncomfortable at any time, and if I refer to some romantic interactions with some characters, very fluid and not at all forced beyond that I have no complaints. A primera instancia realmente no tenia muchas expectativas de la película, a pesar de que haya recibido tan buenas críticas en diversas redes y medios sociales, solo fui con la intensión de verla y aprovechar la oportunidad de que ya estaba en Youtube tan sencillo como eso y en lo personal me alegra que haya sido así, ya que no solo me dejo una buena impresión en sí, también mostro diversos elementos súper importantes pero además de ello la forma en cómo se representan en la trama, no solo para Nimona y Ballister por su situación si no también para el mismo reino en sí y sus habitantes, pero me gustaría ir por partes a través de tales elementos en especifico.

En un reino en cual conceptos como la protección y el cuidado están presentes, ante aspectos amenazantes como monstruos principalmente, es normal que en el mismo se les de mucha importancia a personas encargadas que se ocupen de cumplir y llevar a cabo la responsabilidad con la intensión de protegerlo, me refiero a ser un caballero. Sin embargo la situación de Ballister nuestro protagonista y un próximo caballero a ser iniciado, cambia cuando su vida tristemente se destroza debido a un complot del cual este no fue participe y se le acusa injustamente de tales actos, es debido a esto y sus desesperados medios para limpiar su nombre que conoce a Nimona. Nimona se convierte en el complemento y la ayuda que Ballister necesita, a pesar de que al comienzo se mantenía reacio a la idea y aun más conociendo sus habilidades de transformación, este se da a la tarea de intentar conocerla y saber mas de ella y lo que representa, brindándole la oportunidad de confiar.

La acción que toma Ballister ante ella es clave, ya que al comienzo sus cambios físicos le hacían sentir incomodo y hasta parcialmente asustado, pero con el tiempo solo se da cuenta a medida de que intentan conocerse que ella es como cualquier otro (exceptuando sus habilidades) que solo es víctima de las circunstancias por ser diferente, ya que a el también se le dio un mal trato de pequeño por ser diferente pero por un clasismo, este rechazo es lo que les une mas y sobretodo muestra un gran contraste con el pensamiento que se vive en el reino. Se nos muestra a través de toda la película la importancia y el peso social, que conlleva ser un caballero a pesar de ser una época ciertamente muy adelantada tecnológicamente este ideal se ve muy bien marcado, sin embargo la forma en cómo este ideal se consolido y se mostro a futuras generaciones fue a través del peligro y el miedo, ante el desconocimiento de muchas cosas en el exterior y sobre todo los monstruos en si principalmente.

Es normal que como seres humanos, a primera instancia sobre algo que desconocemos podemos llegar a sentir rechazo, miedo, inseguridad y otra clase de emociones que nos haga evaluar nuestra situación en rasgos muy generales, pero si no cuestionamos o brindamos la oportunidad de adentrarnos, no podremos tener una visión tan segura y amplia de ello, esta película refuerza mucho eso, en como muchas personas crecieron ante ideales forzados de fortaleza, protección, miedo e ignorancia a conveniencia de otros ante sucesos que desconocían sin siquiera darse a la oportunidad de llegar a cuestionar y tener un pensamiento lógico más amplio, que ponga en duda si lo que se vive se considera correcto, Ballister pudo hacerlo pero fue a través y gracias a Nimona. Nimona tristemente solo fue víctima de tales circunstancias así como Ballistar también sintió eso ante el prejuicio de todos hacia el, esta película nos muestra en grandes rasgos lo poderosa que pueda llegar a ser miedo y lo ignorancia si se lleva incluso a través de generaciones, pero también que podemos romper esos esquemas y ser mejores por muy arduo y difícil que sea, realmente es una película que recomiendo.

La película goza a su vez de buenos elementos de animación, dinamismo, colores y mansiones, la atmosfera en cómo se desenvolvió esto fue más que cómoda y no me sentía incomodo en ningún momento, y si me refiero algunas interacciones de carácter romántico con algunos personajes, muy fluido y para nada forzado mas allá de eso no tengo ningún tipo de quejas.
