Shigurui: Death Frenzy / Violence and twisted self-improvement (2007) Review [Eng - Esp]

Japan, in terms of animation, has been represented several times in the inclusion of plots or themes related to samurai, either in genres such as shonen (content for young people) or seinen (content more for adults), although not necessarily touching or addressing in such depth such contexts, perhaps even being modified at the convenience of the mangaka but implying that it has dyes or aspects that we can recognize, as in the swords, clothing, the era, etc. An example of this can be seen in the anime Kimetzu no Yaiba that addresses these points but the plot is focused on other things, or the opposite case with the anime Rurouni Kenshin (samurai) which if we can see a full identification of these patterns, in which the actions of not only our protagonist but several people at that time show and go more in line with a deep theme of their lifestyle as samurai themselves.

What I want to get with all this is that I have seen several series, anime and I have read several manga that address much this theme of "samurai" presenting to a greater or lesser extent the points that I mentioned a moment ago, but some time ago I saw an anime which did have these points, but presented in a somewhat twisted way mentally that really caught my attention with the first chapters and became a journey between two people, showing their path and intentions to become strong and fulfill other tasks in a very interesting and even cruel way, for the duty touching points such as discipline, cruelty, little value for the life of others, self-realization and apathy but I will talk later calmly about these points this time I bring you the anime of Shigurui.

Japón en términos de lo que es animación, se ha visto representado varias veces en inmiscuir tramas o temáticas vinculadas a los samuráis, ya sea en géneros como el shonen (contenido para jóvenes) o el seinen (contenido mas para adultos) aunque no necesariamente tocando o abordando a tal profundidad dichos contextos, quizás hasta siendo modificados a conveniencia del mangaka pero dando a entender que tiene tintes o aspectos que podemos llegar a reconocer, como en las espadas, la vestimenta, la época, etc. Ejemplo de esto se puede ver en el anime de Kimetzu no Yaiba que aborda estos puntos pero la trama se ve enfocada en otras cosas, o caso contrario con el anime de Rurouni Kenshin (samuráix ) el cual si podemos ver una identificación en su totalidad de estos patrones, en los que las acciones de no solo nuestro protagonista si no varios personas en esa época muestran y van más acorde a un tema profundo de su estilo de vida como samuráis en sí.

A lo que quiero llegar con todo esto es que eh visto varias series, animes y eh leído varios mangas que abordan mucho esta temática de "samuráis" presentando en mayor o menor grado los puntos que ya mencione hace un momento, pero hace un tiempo atrás vi un anime el cual si tenía estos puntos, pero presentado de una manera a nivel mental algo retorcida que realmente llamo mi atención con los primeros capítulos y se convirtió en un viaje entre dos personas, mostrando su camino eh intensiones para volverse fuertes y cumplir otros cometidos de una manera muy interesante y hasta cruel, por el deber tocando puntos como la disciplina, crueldad, poco valor por la vida ajena, auto realización y apatía pero ya hablare mas adelante con calma sobre estos puntos esta vez les traigo el anime de Shigurui.

Shigurui is considered as a manga series written by Norio Nanjo and illustrated by Takayuki Yamaguchi, which is based on the first chapter of the novel by Norio Nanjo titled Suruga - Jo Gozen Jiai. It was at the time of 2007 that was given the opportunity to make an animated series for such manga, which was broadcast for the television channel called WOWOW on July 19, 2007, and the studio responsible for the development of such work of animation was the studio Madhouse, being directed by Hiroshi Hamasaki and written by Seishi Minakami, with a total of 12 chapters, but remained unfinished and without any second season, due to problems of the animation studio and the director.

Shigurui viene siendo considerado como una serie de manga escrita por Norio Nanjo e ilustrada por Takayuki Yamaguchi, la cual esta basada en el primer capítulo de la novela de Norio Nanjo titulada Suruga - Jo Gozen Jiai. Fue en la época del 2007 que se le dio la oportunidad de hacer una serie animada para tal manga, la cual fue transmitida para el canal televisivo llamado WOWOW el 19 de julio de 2007, y el estudio encargado para la elaboración de dicho trabajo de animación fue el estudio Madhouse, estando dirigida por Hiroshi Hamasaki y escrita por Seishi Minakami, contando con un total de 12 capítulos, pero quedando inconclusa y sin ninguna segunda temporada, por problemas del estudio de animación y el director.

La trama se centra en la época de 1629, se encuentra gobernando en Japón Tokugawa Tadanaga, un individuo déspota con una visión retorcida y sadista, el cual quiere inaugurar un evento en el que participaran a muerte varios guerreros en combates individuales, es a partir de esta premisa que se nos muestra a dos figuras llamados Fujiki Gennosuke e Irako Seigen los cuales combatirán a muerte y a primera vista mostrando una deficiencia física, la trama nos transportara al pasado para conocer el trasfondo de ambos y el desenlace que los llevo a ese momento.

At the beginning when I took a look at this anime I must say that I was a little hooked with the premise of these two people, which even having a physical deficiency were ready to fight to death by order of a twisted and bloodthirsty tyrant, I really hooked the curiosity to know so many things and why it took place what is present in the first chapter, the condition of both, and why so much eagerness for such a fight, and to see the background of all the events that led to the end in what is shown in that chapter and therefore the whole series, I really liked it a lot, unfortunately I had to resort to the manga to inform me even more because seeing that the anime was unfinished, but out of it shows a plot that projects a set of rather peculiar and twisted nuances in many points mentally speaking.

When there are so many factors that can affect the mental and emotional psyche as shown in this anime, as in my case I could only conclude one thing and that is the versatility and complexity of the human being, complexity which is strongly linked in this case with a sense of self-improvement and revenge, The two protagonists of this series and is that really as a viewer to see the background and motivation of each as samurai and practitioners of a style, specifically which in this world is known as one of the best and most lethal styles, makes you stay so immersed in seeing what necessary means each one will do to overcome the other and keep their reputation intact, deepened to this the cruel competitive environment, the little appreciation for the lives of others in order to polish the skills and improve, the situation so conflicting internally that is lived and the varied and inward behaviors shared by several people, mainly those who are very strong in the area of the sword makes you have a different and interesting vision of their way of being, and lifestyle in a curious way or in my opinion so I felt it.

It is a series that personally does not take reservations or is limited to show the results of what it entails to take lives and cruelly show the necessary means for them, in an era which is retaken little by little certain values which had been left aside, and is only given the accentuation by a cruel and twisted whim by the ruler of the day, in the first chapter. It is shown in a very cruel and graphic way what death entails, another detail that I personally found very interesting and that beyond the malice and human whim for several characters, is that the dedication when polishing the skills with the sword seemed very good, some more than others but mainly that of the master and main head of the dojo, as well as his particular mental condition and of course that of other students coupled to the style that is applied, the interactions and the way to get there also seemed very interesting to me in an unusual way and certainly somewhat complicated at times to understand, it is a series that I recommend but should be seen with some attention because like any seinen when human complexity is handled, it tends to delve into somewhat dense aspects and here there is no exception.

In relation to the animation section, for the time it enjoys a quite acceptable animation, showing a greater focus and emphasis on the scenes of action and death or blood as well as the use of sword skills, but predominantly showing a more than anything gloomy picture in itself, I feel that with the intention of giving weight to the environment in a somewhat heavier way, although the animation is not in my opinion super outstanding it really is not bad at all, and you can notice a fluid and interesting dynamism.

In relation to the plot, it takes a great weight the fact of the cruelty in which we live, and above all the self-improvement and how terrible could be the acts of some people, with such a high level with the skills of the sword in this case, making a great emphasis on a kind of rivalry for our two protagonists who will show us in their own way and vision of life their goals and above all the necessary means, An interesting premise that will gain weight with a good first chapter that will be reinforced little by little, this escalating in stronger and murkier ways in both the physical and mental aspect of these two and the people with whom they coexist. I feel that it is an anime that is worth it, if you want to enjoy something a little stronger although slightly dense and difficult to understand at various points. Al comienzo cuando le di un vistazo a este anime debo decir que me engancho un poco con la premisa de estas dos personas, las cuales aun teniendo una deficiencia física se disponían a luchar a muerta por mandato de un tirano retorcido y sediento de sangre, realmente me engancho la curiosidad el saber tantas cosas y el porqué se llevo a cabo lo que se presencia en el primer capítulo, la condición de ambos, y porque tanto afán de un combate así, y ver el trasfondo de todos los sucesos que desembocaron al final en lo que se muestra en dicho capitulo y por consiguiente toda la serie, pues realmente me gusto bastante, lamentablemente tuve que recurrir al manga para informarme aun mas ya que viendo que el anime quedo inconcluso, pero fuera de ello muestra una trama que proyecta un conjunto de matices bastante peculiares y retorcidos en muchos puntos mentalmente hablando.

Cuando se está de por medio tantos factores que pueden llegar afectar la psique mental y emocional como se plasma en este anime, como en mi caso solo pude llegar a concluir una cosa y es la versatilidad y complejidad del ser humano, complejidad la cual se ve fuertemente ligada en este caso con un sentido de auto superación y venganza traído en acotación, por los dos protagonistas de esta serie y es que realmente como espectador el ver el trasfondo y la motivación de cada uno como samuráis y practicantes de un estilo, en especifico el cual en este mundo viene siendo conocido como uno de los mejores estilos y más letales, hace que te mantengas tan inmerso en ver que medios necesarios harán cada uno para superar al otro y mantener su reputación intacta, ahondado a esto el cruel ambiente competitivo, la poca valoración por la vida ajena con tal de pulir las habilidades y mejorar, la situación tan conflictiva de forma interna que se vive y las variadas y entrañas conductas que comparten varias personas, principalmente aquellos que son muy fuertes en el área de la espada hace que se tenga una visión diferente eh interesante de su forma de ser, y estilo de vida de manera curiosa o a mi parecer así lo sentí.

Es una serie que en lo personal no tomas reservas o se limita a mostrar los resultados de lo que conlleva el quitar vidas y mostrar de forma cruel los medios necesarios para ellos, en una época la cual se ve retomado de a poco ciertos valores de los cuales se habían estado dejando de lado, y solo se le da la acotación por un capricho cruel y retorcido por parte del gobernante de turno, en el primeros capítulo. Se muestra de una forma muy cruel y grafica lo que conlleva la muerte, otro detalle que en lo personal me pareció muy interesante y que mas allá de la malicia y capricho humano por varios personajes, es que la dedicación a la hora de pulir las habilidades con la espada me parecieron muy buenas, unas más que otras pero principalmente la del maestro y cabeza principal del dojo, así como su particular condición mental y claro la de otros estudiantes acoplados al estilo que se aplica, las interacciones y la manera de llegar también me pareció muy interesante de una forma inusual y ciertamente algo complicada a veces de entender, es una serie que recomiendo pero se debe ver con cierta atención ya que como cualquier seinen cuando se maneja la complejidad humana, se tiende a profundizar en aspectos algo densos y aquí no hay excepción.

Con relación al apartado de la animación, para la época goza de una animación bastante aceptable, mostrando un mayor enfoque y énfasis en las escenas de acción y muerte o sangre así como tal, del uso de las habilidades con la espada, pero luciendo con predominancia un panorama más que nada lúgubre de por sí, siento yo que con la intensión de darle peso al ambiente de una manera algo más pesada, a pesar de que la animación no es a mi parecer súper destacable realmente no está para nada mal, y se puede notar un dinamismo fluido eh interesante.

Con relación a la trama, toma un gran peso el hecho de la crueldad en la que se vive, y sobre todo la auto superación y lo terrible que podrían ser los actos de algunas personas, con un nivel tan elevado con las habilidades de la espada en este caso, haciendo un gran énfasis en una especie de rivalidad por nuestros dos protagonistas que nos mostraran a su manera y visión de vida sus metas y sobre todo los medios necesarios, que harán para que cada uno de ellos las cumpla a su manera, una premisa interesante que cobrara peso con un buen primer capítulo que ira reforzando de a poco, esto escalando de maneras más fuertes y turbias tanto en el aspecto físico como mental de estos dos y las personas con las que conviven. Siento que es un anime que vale la pena, si quieren disfrutar de algo un poquito más fuerte aunque algo ligeramente denso y difícil de comprender en varios puntos.
