Blue beetle

Among the positives of the film is definitely Xolo Maridueña, anyone who has seen him from Cobra Kai knows that he can carry the burden of the heroic character. The CGI is very good (a breath of fresh air after The Flash's laborious CGI), the fight scenes are also enjoyable, the soundtrack which although predictable for superhero movies (synths in the visuals & 80s rock in the battles) tied in nicely, and overall for me a fun, feelgood, beautiful movie overall, definitely better not only than Flash and Black Adam but also Sazam 2 which I liked as an attempt. Last highlight is the grandmother of the family who used to be a revolutionary and attacks so corporate armies come with anti-imperialist fury!

On the downside, the movie's villains don't seem that threatening. Susan Sarandon and the Indestructible Man played by Raoul Max Teujillo are as predictable and wooden as it gets, and the saddest thing is that some of their lines you've heard before in other movies, eg "you don't deserve this power", etc. The same goes for Bruna Marquezine (Jenny Kord) who plays the love interest of the blue beetle, they have made her character completely flat and with the most predictable plot and lines ever. The film passes the Bechdel test, but fails miserably where it goes to put in a woke element, ending up instead of saying something meaningful, saying that Batman is a "fascist" and that it's "sexist" that Jenny Kord didn't get all of his legacy her father, etc. But the worst negative is that the Reyes family has literally ALL the Latino clichés you see in a Spanish soap opera. Ok, there is a smile here and there, but at some point you expect to see at least a little Latino community representation, but nothing, only stereotypes and clichés that start from the protagonist himself who makes a heavier accent and more vocal communication with the rest of the family , and they end up making jokes about María la del Barrio. The cinema was almost 90% full yesterday in a middle room and mainly with a Latino audience, and at most "jokes" hardly anyone laughed, but the movie had its moments. I also think it would be better in 3D than in IMAX, but this is a matter of personal taste.

Otherwise an enjoyable movie, I would watch it again, it just doesn't offer anything new, it's like watching a mash-up of MCU's best moments from the story, the love story, the fights, the lines, the epilogue, everything, average to bad start for the new DCEU. And it also has 2 post-credit scenes that are already wet 🥲🥹🫠 - I really hope if they release 2 and 3 they will be better!

I might have to make an effort to see it. So many of the super hero movies have become overly predictable... Too bad the bad guys weren't great in your view, they usually are what make a movie good! I might wait until it streams for free to watch it though!

Ahh.. Thank you for the review. As someone who's thinking of double thoughts of checking it out, this is very helpful. And the end credit scene. I guess when I go watch it, I have to make sure that I won't go to the bathroom before that.

Hahah yea but the lights doesn’t turn on before the credits scene
