Indiana jones : Dial of destiny

It's a great farewell to Indy and this cycle of Harrison Ford's career. And this is something I realized after the 2nd viewing, as I came away from the first one incredibly warped - what Rise of Skywalker vol. 2, potato tombstone of the blockbuster was what we saw now-. Maybe there was an anxiety in me that didn't let me see it clearly, a misery after the lukewarm reaction of the critics in Cannes, a blockbuster fatigue, given that I will have in front of me a film on which they have thrown about 300 thousand dollars of budget to it creates expectations for me that I didn't even know what they were. Bad, very bad, because Dial of Destiny is a fully alive, honest and beautifully meaningful film.

It's a question of how you can make a blockbuster adventure about an 80-year-old actor who has the most epic streak ever put on film ('80-'84 will never be repeated by anyone and that's why Harrison Ford is the biggest movie star, no we won't discuss it). It's more than a showdown with the story, you're facing and participating in the story itself wink wink and James Mangold turned out to be the right man for the job. It may not have Spielberg's magic touch (well, Spielberg probably doesn't either anymore), but he has everything he needs to deliver an experience that's fresh and dynamic, and at the same time thoughtful and moving.

It's rare to see Harrison Ford smiling and excited, and he did just that in promoting the film. I do not believe that this is a marketing trick (if it was we would be talking about the most elaborate and successful in history), nor Ford's emotion because of the farewell to his character and the closing of a legendary chapter of his life. I believe he recognizes the value of Dial of Destiny and is truly proud of the film they gave us, as in this collective effort everyone ranges from good to great.

It's hot and I'm already tired of writing, so I want to say two last things, which are mild spoilers, but you don't lose anything by reading them (after all, this paranoia about what a spoiler is must stop). At the beginning of the film, a scene takes place where the students of Indy excitedly enter the auditorium to call for a general assembly to announce the start of the celebration for the astronauts who stepped on the moon. In a directorial touch - of which the film abounds - all the sleepy students energize and run outside, while the headquarters' spotlight goes out and Indy is plunged into darkness. All the lights are now on the new era and the new frontiers, Indy does not belong to his era, he is condemned to be what he studies. In general, the direction and the script are on point and I find it very beautiful that we have a blockbuster that from beginning to end knows exactly what it wants to do.
