Anaconda

Doug and Griff decide to fulfill the dream that has united them for years: to shoot their own unconventional remake of the cult film Anaconda. Together with a group of friends, they travel deep into the Amazon to begin filming.

However, their amateur and comically chaotic production takes an unexpected turn when a real, gigantic anaconda appears in the jungle.

🟢🟢🟢🟢

Steve Zahn is the best part of the movie. He does not take himself seriously, and it shows.
Jack Black is average, but he has his good moments.
It has two cameos, no spoilers, that give a nice wink to the audience.
The final scene showing the protagonists’ lives afterward is the most interesting part 🤷‍♂️.
Truth is, it is watchable 😅, but not worth seeing in theaters.
Nice soundtrack.

For 2025, Anaconda and its CGI were mediocre at best.
Paul Rudd and Thandiwe Newton’s performances were unfortunately average and, at times, wooden.
It tried to be funny, but I cannot say I laughed much.
Very basic script.
For a snake movie, the snake does not appear on screen that much.
Boring in places.
Basic direction.
One subplot felt unnecessary, just there to fill time.

Bugonia

Based on the South Korean film Save the Green Planet!, Bugonia centers on Michelle Fuller, the CEO of a major company operating in the pharmaceutical industry. She lives in an isolated and quiet neighborhood, which makes her an easy target for two working-class men, Teddy and his “silly” cousin Don, who are convinced that aliens with human appearances live among us, and that Michelle is one of them.

Is Yorgos Lanthimos’ new film worth watching? For me, yes.

Emma Stone is excellent here as well, performance-wise.
The same goes for Jesse Plemons, which is expected, of course.
In the final 20 minutes, one twist comes after another.
I really liked Lanthimos’ directorial approach here, although it does not come close to Poor Things, which I loved.
The cinematography and editing are at a very good level. Yorgos Mavropsaridis 👏
The screenplay’s activist drive elevates the overall result.
Commentary on class inequalities.
I liked the film’s vitriolic humor.
Strong, paranoid dialogue, like a ping-pong match of verbal confrontations.

🔴🔴🔴🔴

With the twist in the finale, you feel that the film loses its direction a little.
It is not for everyone, like most of his films, nor will everyone understand it. It has Lanthimos’ familiar weirdness.
At times, it is a little more stylized than I would have liked.
The subplot with the mother is presented in a rushed way.
