The Batman (2022)

• The direction and cinematography of the film is amazing, every frame really is for a poster in the room. It shows you in such a beautiful way the rot of Gotham. The direction/cinematography combined with the style of the film, I believe, make for the perfect Gotham. Also to say that the film is influenced (in aesthetics) by 90s films.
It's the best aesthetic and atmosphere I've seen in a Batman movie.
The opening scene with batman's monologue and the juxtaposition of Gotham crime scenes fleeing at the sight of the bat-signal... is simply epic. Great action scenes, also let's say that the movie, although close to 3 hours, really didn't tire me at all.

• The script is excellent. It presents you with a world where everything is corrupt, everything is rotten. It also shows you a completely different Batman/Bruce Wayne a Bruce who barely talks to Alfred. Nevertheless, it must be said that it is a film that is not aimed at everyone and this is because it is a heavy and dark film and the script is responsible for this.

• The performances are really excellent, I will list each character in detail below.
John Turturro as Falcone is very good, he convinced me enough of the boss mobster who is behind all the corrupt things that happen in Gotham. I still loved that the character was made so despicable that he wouldn't hesitate to kill his bastard daughter. Overall I liked it and wouldn't want it to die.
Andy Serkis as Alfred is very decent and what's more, in the time he was given, I think they gave him so little time on purpose, to use him more in a sequel.
Colin Farrell as Penguin is fine to very good although I would have liked him for more time. I liked that we have a Penguin who is not an archmafia but is ranked much lower. Logically (from his last scene) he will have the head of the Gotham mafia.
Jeffrey Wright as Gordon is the big surprise of the film, he is a very different Gordon that we have not seen before. I liked that they made him Batman's sidekick and the only one he trusts.
Zoe ravitz is great as Catwoman, I still can't say if she's better than Michelle Pheiffer, but she's very good. I liked the relationship with Batman, I liked the element they gave with the father.

And now we get into trouble...

Paul Dano as the Riddler the main villain of the movie, he is incredible, I found this Zodiac type version great.
At times I actually felt fear and dread seeing and hearing him. I really liked his back story and why he did all this. He really was EXCELLENT.

Robert Pattinson as Batman I can now confidently say that he is (for me) the best Batman and my favorite version of the character. Yes he is the most violent Batman and the "wounds" are still so fresh.
In this movie we have 95% only Batman and I think even in the few Bruce Wayne scenes that the movie has I see Batman again. So here we have a Bruce Wayne who only lives in the dark, in the scene where he's in the mansion talking to Alfred the guy is wearing sunglasses. He seems so angry and that's why I love him, and I liked the character's journey enough that he basically became Batman because he thought his parents were saints and until the end of the movie you see when that changed how it affected him. I really liked him a lot and for this is my favorite live-action batman ever.

• The music of the film is amazing, it dresses up its scenes so well. Batman's theme is epic and Riddler's is creepy. Giacchino begins and slowly becomes one of the leading composers.

• Now all accessories like suit, batmobile, how he uses grappling hooks and so on are all awesome.

Finally I wanted to say that I really want there to be a franchise in this universe created by Matt Reeves, which I hope continues the way it started with the first movie and that finally DC you let a director show his vision and the result showed .

I never rated the previous batman movies I saw in the past, but I started doing so when I saw Gotham, the series. The characterization and the plot was what made me interested in batman, I have no doubt this one would be good.

There are so many remakes over the years that a comparing them with each other is inevitable

This must be a good movie to watch. I’ve not been able to follow up with new movies these days but I think this is worth a watch.

Now that James Gunn is in charge in DC I'm hoping that we'll see more improved movies like this one. Great review!

It's a good movie, but somewhat predictable and lacking in better action scenes.
