Watch One Of This Movies For Tonight
Collateral
Max, a mild-mannered taxi driver in Los Angeles, lives through a nightmare when his well-dressed passenger, Vincent, turns out to be a professional hitman on a mission to eliminate five targets in one night. Against his will, Max becomes an “accomplice,” all the while sensing that the final victim might be himself.
This urban thriller, released in 2004, sees director Michael Mann “playing” with the nocturnal city of Los Angeles, which becomes the film’s third main character.
For me, Tom Cruise delivers a surprisingly strong performance in this role (much better than I expected), while Jamie Foxx complements the lead cast brilliantly.
Michael Mann directs the film masterfully, packing it with tension and suspense. The atmosphere greatly contributes to the striking visual impact, as does the sharp editing.
It’s essentially a verbal ping-pong match between a taxi driver and a professional assassin—played with convincing dialogue and well-crafted characters—and that, in my view, is the film’s real “trick.” It doesn’t just serve the audience nonstop action, as is often the case in this genre, but also enriches those scenes with compelling dialogue.
The furious chase in the subway is outstanding, as is the final scene, while the overall mood of the film wins you over as a viewer.
It may seem like a simple film on the surface, but it has everything—it's entertaining, suspenseful, and, in my opinion, it’s one of those movies you simply have to see.
Man on Fire
A former CIA operative, burdened with a troubled conscience, becomes the bodyguard of 9-year-old Pita, with whom he develops a bond that goes far beyond a simple professional relationship. When the little girl is kidnapped in Mexico, nothing can stop the hero’s vengeful fury. A remake of Élie Chouraqui’s film.
This 2004 action thriller, directed by Tony Scott, stars Denzel Washington with the then-young Dakota Fanning by his side.
For me, it’s a gripping noir-style revenge thriller, with a powerful performance from the always exceptional Denzel, while little Dakota also shines in her role. The direction is sharp, with a fast pace, intensity, and action that keeps you eager to see how it will all end. Scott uses some heavy stylistic tricks in the editing—sometimes to excess, maybe even pulling you out of the atmosphere—but the story itself is so strong that I didn’t mind it much.
Okay, I’ll admit the argument that the script isn’t the most original you’ll ever encounter, but the film is crafted so well and directed so tightly that it doesn’t matter.
Deeply emotional, with a great soundtrack and stunning cinematography, it brings together all the right pieces of the puzzle—making this a film you’ll absolutely want to watch.
