What To Watch Tonight
F1: The Movie
A veteran driver, considered by many to be washed-up, returns to action alongside a promising young rookie. The director of Top Gun: Maverick is back, this time with Brad Pitt in the lead role. Is it worth your attention?
🟢🟢🟢🟢
Brad Pitt is a true superstar and proves it here once again. Simple, direct, grounded—he delivers a performance that feels effortlessly flawless.
Great directing and excellent pacing. At 2.5 hours long, the film never drags.
Javier Bardem is also very good, and his chemistry with Pitt really works.
Overall, the acting is consistently strong across the board.
The racing scenes are thrilling, and I think Formula 1 fans especially will love them.
The sound design is also outstanding (granted, I watched it on an IMAX screen 😅).
This is the definition of a blockbuster.
The soundtrack is fantastic and really adds to the experience.
It’s pure fun from start to finish.
From a technical standpoint, F1 is crafted to perfection.
Nice touches of humor at just the right moments.
🔴🔴🔴🔴
The script, while not bothersome, is simple and comes with the usual clichés of the genre.
Cutting about 20 minutes from the runtime might have made it tighter—though it never feels boring.
Predictable ending
Old Guard 2
Andy and her team are called to face a new global threat, while the past returns in the form of Quynh – a former comrade they all thought dead. Her comeback sparks conflict, betrayal, and long-buried secrets that threaten to tear the group apart. In the end, the immortals are forced to reconsider their place in the world and confront the ultimate question: is eternal life really worth it?
Is the sequel worth it? I’d say it’s rather average!
🟢🟢🟢🟢
Charlize Theron is Charlize Theron—I love her in anything, a genuine action star.
Nice locations across different parts of the world.
Strong opening action sequence.
Uma Thurman wielding a katana again is always a plus.
Henry Golding was a highlight, bringing some extra energy, and there was even a small twist.
The Andy vs. Quynh fight sequence was well-choreographed.
🔴🔴🔴🔴
Some effects look a bit clumsy.
The script doesn’t develop the story as much as it should—in fact, I’d say it’s weaker than the first film and fairly predictable.
Basic, uninspired direction.
Ambiguous ending.
Without spoiling, it feels like an unfinished movie, as it sets up for yet another sequel.
The subplot with Charlize’s friend isn’t really developed—probably left for the next installment.
Uma Thurman is somewhat underutilized, maybe intentionally, but to me the role felt poorly written.
Okay this has me hooked. Definitely adding to my to-watch list. Thanks for the recommendations.
F1 is such a great movie! I really enjoyed it. I haven't seen either of the Old Guard movies, maybe I need to check them out.
