Here is my periodic update on what I have been watching.

Disenchantment

This animation directed by Simpsons creator Matt Groening takes place in a fairtale world where tomboy Princess Teabenie (aka Bean) goes through various adventures in the company of a not very bright elf and a sarcastic demon. There have been five seasons with the latest being the last ever. They wrapped up the various threads in the end.

This is a pretty violent show with various body parts being chopped off and other nasty deaths. I enjoyed it. The animation is fairly similar to Futurama with some parts using 3d computer graphics.

I generally like my viewing to fairly easy and this was just an enjoyable watch for me that subverts some of the standard themes of fantasy.

Lupin

If you like clever crime shows like Sherlock then Lupin may be your sort of thing. It takes the other side with the main character Assane Diop being a master criminal with a conscience who bases some of his escapades on a real series of classic French books. I have not read those, but it is not essential to enjoy this.

The first story was in two 'parts' of a few episodes and covered Assane's attempt to bring to justice the man responsible for his father's death. This time he is up against some mysterious criminals who want to blackmail him into working for them.

The actual crimes are very clever and it often goes back in time afterwards to show how they were set up.

I was talking to a French colleague who was not that impressed by the writing and acting, but he agreed it is fun. We watched with subtitles.

Scott Pilgrim Takes Off

This is an animated spin-off from the comic books and 2010 movie with most of the original cast doing the voices. It has some elements of the original story, but then spins off in a different direction.

The animation is similar to the comic with some Japanese anime elements. It is noisy and fun.

What is next?

Next up may be Marvel's Echo which spins off from Hawkeye and features a deaf Native American lead.

I also have season 2 of Game of Thrones on charity shop DVD. I am somewhat behind on that show.

There is lots more on my Netflix and Disney watchlists. I just do not spend that much time watching TV, so it takes me a while to get through anything. I always have something I can watch.

Happy viewing.

Disenchantment is constantly poping up on Netflix as suggestion for me. But never tried it. I should give it a try.
The actor of Lupin looks like the guy from Intouchables 😬

If you like Futurama then Disenchanted has a similar vibe. The guy from Lupin has been in some big movies, including Untouchable.

I have watched Lupin, I looked it. Will have to check out the others although that will be on my todd as the missus hates animation!

My other half didn't watch these animations, but she tends to like different stuff anyway. She's into the drama about Cary Grant on ITV right now. After Lupin we need to find something else to watch together.

Disenchanted looked interesting and I also thought that the new animated show Krapopolis looked good too. I haven't watched it yet. I actually watch very little animation these days. I kind of want to use my Disney Plus account to go back and watch the complete Gargoyles run.

I hadn't heard of Krapopolis. There are so many animated shows aimed at adults these days. The Simpsons kicked something off. My kids are really into Rick & Morty, but I've just seen bits. It is a cleverly written show even though it's often gross.

Another one that I have really been wanting to get into is Star Trek lower decks. I think you might enjoy that one, but I believe you can only get it on Paramount Plus. I know how you feel about the ridiculous number of streaming services out there these days.

avatar

They seem to have all the Star Trek these days, but I'm not keen to take another subscription. It was a shame ST: Discovery moved there as we enjoyed that. Mind you, some of the old shows like Voyager and Enterprise are on regular TV.

Discovery has a lot of critics, but I enjoy it. Strange New Worlds is just fantastic and if you ever get the chance to see it, you totally should. Discovery set it up really well in one of the later seasons.

I’ve not watched any of these
There is no doubt that anime is interesting but I don’t have the time
I should create sometime for it then

Watched the first episode of Echo tonight, looks entertaining. One more binge series to watch.

I'll start on that one soon. I can barely keep up with what Marvel put out. I haven't watched all of some of the other shows.
