A Sunday Affair - The Twisted Triangle

When I was younger, Dakore Akande was my celebrity crush. Yeah, I know that's pretty cringe, but it is what it is, xd. I was captivated by her elegance and beauty, with her brilliant acting skills. I was in love then, until I grew older of course, lol. I had earlier seen the movie ad on Netflix while I was browsing through the list of coming soon shows and movies. It was a Nollywood movie (yeah, I know), but it seemed to have a little bit more, so I was interested for sure.

ABOUT

A Sunday Affair is about two best friends who got caught in a love triangle with a man. Toyin (played by Dakore Akande) and Uche (played by Nse Ikpe-Etim) are two best friends who have been other since when they were little. Toyin runs a business while Uche runs an Art Gallery with a major investor who puts in the wads for sexual favors from her. Toyin is the calm one among the two women while Uche, one would say is the wild one. She is notorious for going after married men. Both ladies were at a wedding when Uche spots a gentleman, the brother of the groom; who was been berated by his wife for flirting with another woman. Uche eventually gets involved with him that night but so did her best friend later on.

THE BAD

A movie with so much potential, but with a rather underwhelming ending. I was really disappointed with the ending of it. The acting was also sub-par. At some point, it felt like it was a situation of making do with a scene. One thing that I think could have made this movie a lot better is the addition of more soundtracks to some scenes. I mean, I have seen how transformative music can be to a movie scene. This was sorely lacking. This movie could have had a better rating with just a little tweaks here and there.

THE GOOD

In the Nollywood space, this is something new and refreshing. It was something different from the usual love story we have seen around. The two top actors played their part, albeit it begs for more. The visuals were very nice too, looked like a lot of work must have gone into the production of this.

STREAM OR SKIP

I really was looking forward to this movie, only to get disappointed; sort of. There was a rather raunchy scene that was unnecessary to me. There was a similar scene but it was shown in a more protected way, and it made me wonder why the other explicit scene was too obscene. This one would catch people in the middle. I am swinging toward SKIP. A tad childish sometimes, so much so that I got irritated. I'd give it a 2.7 out of 5 rating too.

Thank you for reading my film review-ish. Definitely subjective, so do tell me if you have seen it and think otherwise. Also, go check it out if you haven't. You might have a different opinion. Till next time. Cheers.

Always serving us with the hit movies, I am adding this to my watchlist right away

After a little more criticism from you I think a 2.7 rating is quite good. For me, I think good music makes a movie real good.

If you have watched far from home then you will see that it’s worth it. The blend of music for every situation made every scene worth watching.

As someone who is mostly involved with nollywood movies I can say for a fact that they are doing a great job with the visuals. Their doing well.

Yeah, I saw Far From Home and I did enjoy it even though It had its downsides, with the latest release and Netflix collab, I think we're in the right direction.
