Introduction

This is our entry into the Cine TV contest - outstanding lead role that was filled by a child actor! Now I had to think hard about this one and then remembered one of my favourite films of all time, Leon. We are not very big on plants in our house, however we do own 2 house plants that we have had for many years, both of them given to us by another SUB, one of the plants is called Leon and the other is called Matilda.....

Film - Leon

Year - 1994

Director - Luc Besson

► About

We again this is a classic story and if you have seen it then you know what it is about. If you have not seen it then it is about a hitman who trains a young girl to become an assasin.

► What you loved about it

I dont know how to sum this up as I loved the whole film. The acting is brilliant and Garry Oldman is a brilliant "villian" if that is what you would call him. However apart from it being the ultimate of cool I think what makes this film into something I love is the relationship between Leon and Matilda. This brings the characters to life and is brilliantly performed by both actors. This scene kind of sums it up:

► How it influenced me

Well aside from naming 2 house plants after the main characters and carrying them round to the different places we have lived. We have cherrished those plants like children with many discussions on their placement in the house and there overall mental and physical well being....how many films in your life have manifested themselves so strongly?

I guess we were strongly influenced by Leon's love for his plant as it is his only relationship before Matilda, here is a montage showing how much he loves that plant:

► Any scene that still pops into your mind.

Gary Oldman can never be ignored in any film he is on. His role in leon is no exception. He plays Stansfield the very, very bad cop! He is so powerful and terryfying in that role. There is a scene which is often quoted that I cannot ignore here, and with good reason. This is the scene not only do you realise how nuts his character is but how dangerous leon is. It can be summed up in this 15 second clip:

► Performance of the actors/actress that left an impression.

Now this is the crunch of the competition. Portman is brilliant, there is no doubt that this film launched the career of a star. She is fautless throughout the film. The film centers around her sense of loss and joy, the sense she is scared but fearless and ultimately her deep love for someone she should not love. One of the most powerful child leads in her generation. Her depth as an actress is really summed up in this scene:

Rating
10 out of 10 SUB masks

Now go watch it or listen to it!

Big up the films

I love this film , like you said Oldman is just GOLD on screen.. he really does epitomise the Police and the power of the State here so well.

Well aside from naming 2 house plants after the main characters and carrying them round to the different places we have lived.

😅❤️ Legends!

This is one of the films I've watched many times and I still can't get tired of watching it again, the storyline, the roles played by each character like Leon and Matilda, are really interesting. Besides the action in this movie, the unexpected ending also makes this movie have its own characteristics.

Mathilda : Leon, I think I'm kinda falling in love with you. [Leon chokes on his milk]

Mathilda : It's the first time for me, you know?
Léon : [wiping himself off] How do you know it's love if you've never been in love before?

Mathilda : 'Cause I feel it.
Léon : Where?

Mathilda : [stoking her stomach] In my stomach. It's all warm. I always had a knot there and now... it's gone.
Léon : Mathilda, I'm glad you don't have a stomach ache any more. I don't think it means anything.

I have always liked this movie. Leon is a magnificent character, he is an example of discipline and Matilda is a bit rebellious. They almost know each other to complement their shortcomings. For example, Matilda learned the order, guidance and security she was needing and Leon to open up with another living being jajaj.
