► About

Well it is Tom Hanks, what more do you want to say except that the best supporting actor role goes to a Volleyball named Wilson! When he crashes and ends up an a dessert island you realise that life on a desert island ain't what it is cracked up to be.

► What you loved about it

This film to us is a masterclass of a performance. You can feel the pain and the joys with Tom Hanks at every step of the journey. I love survival shows anyway and Tom Hank's journey of surival is a fascinating one. One of the best scenes for me is when he opens all the fedex packages and then has to use what he finds to survive.

The other scene that really springs to mind is when he creates Wilson! A move made out of pure desperation and loneliness.

► How it influenced me

Now if I was stuck on a desert island I would watch this film and would have someone to relate to! All through the film you are along for the journey the camera work and directing really take you along for the ride. yet again Zemeckis shows his sills as a director and not only a writer with another Oscar winning film, bringing the very best out of Hanks for him to win!

► What part of it did you find most interesting.

Now the one scene that still terrifies me is the crash scene. I remember sitting there right at the front of the cinema which one of the ours SUBs watching this and we were glued to our seat with terror. Even now having watched it again and again this scene stands out as one of the most realistic plane crashes I have ever seen.

► Performance of the actors/actress that left an impression.

You cannot deny Tom's performance in this film. Apparently he put on and lost weight especially for the film. I cannot imagine how difficult it could be to be acting most of the film on your own which he does so skillfully. I mentioned Wilson a few times now and I think it is a testement to Tom Hank's acting that he could successfully make a vollyball one of the greatest sidekicks in a film ever, even to the point that you can buy "Wilson" on Amazon!

► Why do you think it's significant and great.

It has so much going for it. This is an unforgetable film that is regularily quoted and referenced. For a film to be so present in modern culture really is a testement to how great it is. So if I were to be stuck on a desert island all I can say is I hope that Tom Hanks and Wilson are with me.
