This made me think a little. Not for the reason of lack of movies on the subject of friendship but for the exact one movie from the many(maybe few) that I have seen that embodies totally what friendship, in all its gore and glory is.

But finally, it jumped in my mind, 3 IDIOTS! Was a sensation few years ago and in my opinion, even in years to come, it still would be. A true classic!

3 IDIOTS is a a film about three guys who in their first year, started schooling at the Imperial College of Engineering. They became roommates in that first year

The three friends; Rancho, a very brilliant guy who loved to carry out experiments and had a playful disposition to engineering which did not go down well with Virus the college professor. Raju, was from a very poor home, had a terribly sick father, a sister who couldn't get married because of their situation and his being able to go through college and get a job was his only shot at making life a tad bit easier for his family.
And Farhan, whose family was a little better off, but, he had no business being in that college. He wanted to be a wild life photographer but his father would have nothing of it.
Back then, it was a thing of pride that a person went to Engineering school. It brought great respect to the family.

The movie portrayed these three friends going all out for one another, sticking through sad times and smiling through the good.

Rancho helped Farhan convince his father to let him pursue his dream. He helped Raju get back his self confidence. It was true love and absolute friendship in play.

One scene that stick in my memory, which brings tears to my eyes and warmth in my heart was a time right before their final exams when Raju's paralyzed father had a heart attack. With Pia(Virus's daughter's) help, Rancho takes Raju's father to the hospital, strapped to his back on Pia's scooter. Raju was furious at him for that but only after he heard the doctor say that his father would have died but for the timely appearance did he understand how far his friend went to help and save his father.

Very much, I admired how these friends stuck together. How they went all out for one another(Rancho especially). There were other themes addressed in this film and obviously, friendship wasn't the major one.

Still, everything about how the friends met and the journey of their lives intertwined with one another made it stand out for me.
