I think I have said it a few times about the times when I used to watch 3 to 5 movies a day - those days are long behind. Who has the time to watch 3 movies a day - I had to do it alone. But as the time went on and my own schedule got busy; I can barely make time. Now, even I try to watch half a film every day and I remain unsuccessful. But movie watching has been something I did alone for a long time - nowadays, I occasionally watch movies with a certain group of cinema lovers. Because of them, often I feel like I haven't watched anything yet - anything noteworthy. So, we watched In The Mood For Love (2000).

One fine day, the cracked Egg knocked (rather harshly) on my DMs telling me that she was nervous. Well, I didn't think too much of it since cracked Egg gets scared too easily but still, I asked, out of curiosity, what made her so scared. Her reply amused me - she was scared to watch this film alone. I know what you're thinking - it's not a horror flick nor thriller and frankly, horror and thriller make Egg laugh. But there's something that knocked her out of her usual ways. And I come to find a conclusion very shocking. The Egg gets scared of overwhelming emotions. Before you think, Egg is someone imaginary, she's a real person and a good writer among us. I suggested to her if it's too much for her (alone) we can watch it together. So, along with the Mother Chicken, we watched Wong Kar-wai's In The Mood For Love (2000). Don't let the ratings fool you, my dear, this isn't any conventional film and Egg had every reason to be scared.

The story is quite simple and yet it's not. Two people got their lives tangled together and yet they both chose different paths to untangle themselves. The weight of unspoken words is so much more than the story holds. In the end, it wasn't as simple as I thought. The two leads shared an understanding, a friendship, and some sort of longing mixed with attraction but both were reluctant to cross the line so that they don't end up being similar to the people who put them in that place.

It is a restless moment. She has kept her head lowered... to give him a chance to come closer. But he could not, for lack of courage. She turns and walks away.

I don't know what to say about the story of the film - I'm at a loss for words. I think I have seen more complex films, and surreal films but this was something different. It was somewhat emotionally complex. I know for sure that I have a hard time dealing with my emotions and emotionally complex films make me feel more scattered. And then the soundtracks, it's just as tumultuous as the story. Perhaps, it's a way of showing that there's no such thing as unblemished happily ever after or maybe it's just another some territories should remain unventured - it can be anything else. I could say so much more and yet I can't; I won't.
