Les confieso que dos días después del estreno de Barbie fui a verla con mis amigos, tenía expectativas muy altas solo porque la crítica era muy buena. Pero eso no quita que hubiera cierto sector de gente que veía la película de forma despectiva, decía que el mensaje que transmitía era errado y hacia alusión a propaganda feminista. Yo simplemente no me dejé llevar por dichos comentarios, me considero una persona bastante abierta de mente para que algo así me afecte, usualmente no me suele importar la opinión de los demás hasta que yo mismo forme una propia viendo el producto en sí, creo que es algo que también muchas personas deberían comenzar a hacer. Vi técnicamente dos bandos peleando como pollos sin cabeza unos diciendo que se ponían a los hombres como unos estúpidos y otros diciendo que la película era exclusiva para mujeres, ocurriendo que si eras hombre no podías opinar de la cinta, algo exagerado si te pones a pensar con claridad. Las personas que llegaron a entender el mensaje por completo siento que fueron los que más disfrutaron el filme, puedo decir con certeza que mi grupo de amigos y yo la disfrutamos de principio a fin con el montón de momentos cómicos. Así que sin más dilación hablemos de lo que entendí acerca de Barbie y quizás también un poco sobre la polémica que envuelve la película.
I confess that two days after the premiere of Barbie I went to see it with my friends, I had very high expectations just because the criticism was very good. But that does not mean that there was a certain sector of people who saw the film in a derogatory way, they said that the message it transmitted was wrong and made an allusion to feminist propaganda. I simply did not let myself be carried away by those comments, I consider myself a person quite open-minded for something like that to affect me, usually I do not usually care about the opinion of others until I myself form one by seeing the product itself, I think it is something that also many people should start doing. I saw technically two bands fighting like chickens without heads, some saying that they were putting men as stupid and others saying that the film was exclusive for women, happening that if you were a man you could not comment on the film, something exaggerated if you start thinking clearly. The people who managed to understand the message completely, I feel that they were the ones who enjoyed the film the most, I can say with certainty that my group of friends and I enjoyed it from beginning to end with the comic moments. So without further ado, let's talk about what I understood about Barbie and maybe a little about the controversy that surrounds the film.

Barbie nos narra la historia de la Barbie estereotípica, una Barbie que no destaca en ningún ámbito en específico, solo es conocida por ser linda, mientras muchas de las otras Barbies tienen sus propias carreras las cuales ejercen en Barbie Land, una ciudad utópica donde todo es lindo y rosa, lugar que es gobernado por las Barbies, siendo los Ken relegados a ser solo los acompañantes de Barbie, buscando su atención para sentirse especiales. La Barbie estereotípica de un momento a otro por una extraña razón comienza a tener pensamientos de muerte, se supone que ella es perfecta, es imposible que piense de esa forma, luego poco a poco va tomando características mucho más humanas, apareciendo estrías en su cuerpo y hasta llegando a tener el pie plano como una persona normal. No le queda más de otra que ir con la Barbie rarita para resolver su problema, Barbie que es excluida por las demás pero que a su vez es quien mantiene el orden de Barbie Land. Solo hay una solución para el problema de la Barbie estereotípica, debe ir al mundo real, encontrar a su dueña y hacer que deje de tener pensamientos negativos que se ven reflejados en ella. En dicho viaje Barbie será acompañada por Ken, quien aprenderá sobre el machismo y el patriarcado teniendo la genial idea de instaurarlo de Barbie Land, problema el cual las Barbies en conjunto deberán solucionar después.
Barbie tells us the story of the stereotypical Barbie, a Barbie who does not stand out in any specific area, she is only known for being pretty, while many of the other Barbies have their own careers which they exercise in Barbie Land, an utopian city where everything is pretty and pink, a place governed by the Barbies, with the Kens relegated to being Barbie's only companions, seeking her attention to feel special. The stereotypical Barbie from one moment to another, for some strange reason, begins to have thoughts of death, she is supposed to be perfect, it is impossible for her to think that way, then little by little she begins to take on much more human characteristics, appearing stretch marks on her body and even getting flat feet like a normal person. She has no choice but to go to the weird Barbie to solve her problem, Barbie who is excluded by the others but who in turn is the one who maintains the order of Barbie Land. There is only one solution to the problem of the stereotypical Barbie, she must go to the real world, find her owner and make her stop having negative thoughts that are reflected in her. On this journey Barbie will be accompanied by Ken, who will learn about machismo and patriarchy having the great idea of instituting it in Barbie Land, a problem that the Barbies together will have to solve later.

El personaje que puedo decir que se lleva toda la atención de la película sin lugar a dudas es Ken, siendo el más cómico y teniendo al final un desarrollo memorable, enseñándole al espectador que no debemos de depender de algo o de otra persona para ser uno mismo, debemos aprender a ser suficientes por nosotros mismos. Aunque el gran mensaje está en lo que le sucede a Barbie donde se puede llegar a la conclusión que debemos aceptarnos a pesar de todos los defectos que tengamos o podremos llegar a padecer, ser perfecto es imposible así que debemos dejar de preocuparnos tanto por eso, así es la vida, debemos de hacer caso omiso a las exigencias de la sociedad que nos causan presión, si hacemos eso sentiremos un peso más ligero en nuestros hombros. El mensaje como tal no está dirigido hacia las mujeres, está dirigido a tanto hombres como mujeres, ya que se intenta en todo momento que ambos se sientan identificados y podemos ver eso en la clara inversión de roles de género que hay en el filme, en vez de sentirse ofendidos por esto deberían abrir un poco más su mente y ver que quizás muchas de las mujeres se siente también de esa forma porque son innegables la gran mayoría de problemas sociales que se encuentran en nuestro día a día.
The character that I can say takes all the attention of the movie without a doubt is Ken, being the most comic and having a memorable development at the end, teaching the viewer that we should not depend on something or another person to be ourselves, we should learn to be enough for ourselves. Although the great message is in what happens to Barbie where we can reach the conclusion that we should accept ourselves despite all the defects we have or may suffer, being perfect is impossible so we should stop worrying so much about that, that's life, we should ignore the demands of society that cause us pressure, if we do that we will feel a lighter weight on our shoulders. The message itself is not directed towards women, it is directed towards both men and women, since it is tried at all times that both feel identified and we can see that in the clear inversion of gender roles that there is in the movie, instead of feeling offended by this they should open their minds a little more and see that maybe many women also feel that way because the great majority of social problems are undeniable in our day to day.

No todo es Barbie y Ken, también tenemos a Allan, un personaje super memorable que en las pocas escenas que aparece se roba la pantalla, siendo hasta en muchas ocasiones el ser más razonable en la película. La parte cómica del filme es sin dudas uno de los platos fuertes, ver cómo Ken se comporta como un tonto y forma un patriarcado por el simple hecho de que pensaba que trataba sobre caballos es magnífico. Tanta sátira con el comportamiento de los personajes hasta nos hace ver que ningún extremo es bueno y es mejor buscar un balance donde ambos bandos salgan beneficiados, viéndose reflejado al final de la película donde se le promete a los Kens más participación en Barbie Land. La verdad un poco decepcionado de la versión de Barbie Girl que hicieron para la película, esperaba la original de Aqua, no un remix todo insulso que colocaron al final de la película. Otra cosa que me sorprendió bastante fue la actriz de la creadora de Barbie, que me costó reconocer pero es la que hace de mamá de Matilda, reviví un poco mi infancia en ese momento. El final lo vi como bastante cumplidor, Barbie aceptando todos sus defectos hasta el punto de querer dejar de ser una Barbie. Una película más que excelente y que deberían ver.
Not everything is Barbie and Ken, we also have Allan, a super memorable character who in the few scenes he appears in, steals the screen, being even more reasonable in the movie many times. The comedy part of the movie is without a doubt one of the highlights, seeing how Ken behaves like a fool and forms a patriarchy simply because he thought it was about horses is great. So much satire with the behavior of the characters makes us see that no extreme is good and it is better to seek a balance where both sides benefit, reflected at the end of the movie where more participation in Barbie Land is promised to the Kens. The truth is a little disappointed with the version of Barbie Girl they did for the movie, I expected the original from Aqua, not a remix all tasteless that they put at the end of the movie. Another thing that surprised me quite a bit was the actress of the Barbie creator, which I found it hard to recognize but is the one who plays Matilda's mom, I relived a bit of my childhood at that moment. I saw the end as quite fulfilling, Barbie accepting all her defects to the point of wanting to stop being a Barbie. A movie more than excellent and that you should see.
I really liked your analysis. I think the original Aqua song sung by them was not going to come out to avoid conflicts since at the time there were many between the band and matel.
But technically they made a remix where you hear some of the original song, I don't see the point.
A production that became a trend just a few days after it came out and as you say, everyone will have their point of view regarding this film and I think that beyond being all pink, seeing a barbie who is looking for a life, will manage to transmit many important things for all ages and the idea was not to create conflicts, rather to recreate that classic from the childhood of many. Great that you enjoyed it.
Even before the film it was a trend, many people organised to dress in pink on the day of the premiere. Too bad I didn't have any pink shirts.
Estoy de acuerdo contigo, yo recibí ese mismo mensaje, también escuché las opiniones de los demás antes de verla, que era muy feminista y extremista pero yo no la Vi de esa manera, como dices en tu reseña, logran encontrar un equilibrio entre los dos géneros, los ken expresan sus sentimientos y entienden que pueden ser ellos mismos sin depender de alguien más, las Barbies se aceptan como son y los cambios en sus cuerpos, Barbie comprende que su imagen en el mundo solo daba un mensaje superficial y decide cambiar eso. La verdad a mi me encantó también, disfrute mucho de la comedia, adore los escenarios de juguetes y sobre todo capte el mensaje que quisieron enviar. Saludos
Exactamente, hiciste un buen resumen de lo que la película en verdad quiere transmitir, no sé dónde las otras personas vieron que tratan de dejar mal a uno de los dos géneros, quizás se dejaron llevar por la opinión popular y puede que tampoco hayan visto la película como tal.
This is a very good way to live your life in relation to films or just anything in general. I have found that reviewers often have a political agenda completely unrelated to the actual substance of the film and that is getting worse as time goes by. Some of my favorite movies ever were just destroyed by critics and I can't help but think that a lot of this has to do with politics inside the film industry as well as "regular politics" that might be represented in the film itself.
I haven't seen Barbie yet but I will see it at some point.
It doesn't make sense, you can tell from afar when a film wants to make real propaganda, in this film you can't see that anywhere, it's more of a satire where it shows that neither patriarchy nor matriarchy is so good.
I think that politics are trying to invade anything and things get accused of being political when they are just having fun. Well the makers of Barbie can laugh all the way to the bank because they are making a ton of money off of this film.
