This film is one of my favorites in the horror genre because it blends the supernatural with real events so well. But what stands out most throughout the film is Ethan Hawke's stellar performance. His character inspires terror and fear just by seeing him wear those hideous Japanese masks. I was quite impressed by the actor's attitude when wearing each mask. And I like that it doesn't use any special effects or anything similar to make it creepy. I also liked the adaptation they gave to the development of the film, with everything taking place in the 1970s, when crime wasn't as pronounced and disappearances were something that occurred sporadically. Every detail in the costumes, cars, and the entire setting perfectly highlights those iconic years.

Esta película es una de mis favoritas del género de terror porque mezcla muy bien lo sobrenatural con hechos reales. Pero lo que más resalta en toda la película es la actuación estelar de Ethan Hawke. Su personaje inspira terror y miedo con solo verlo usar esas máscaras japonesas tan horribles. La actitud del actor cuando usa cada máscara me impresionó bastante. Y me agrada que no tenga efectos especiales ni nada que se le parezca para hacerlo tenebroso. Además también me gustó la adaptación que le dieron al desarrollo de la película, que todo girara en la época de los años 70, cuando la delincuencia no era tan pronunciada y las desapariciones de las personas era algo que ocurría esporádicamente. Cada detalle en vestuario, carros y todo el ambiente, resaltan muy bien aquellos años tan emblemáticos.
The plot isn't far behind either. The fight for survival between the children and an adult was excellently handled. The director knew how to maintain the suspense from beginning to end. It kept me on the edge of my seat because I imagined the worst. With Stephen King as the author of the story, you never know 🤣. Another aspect I really liked is that they kept the supernatural aspect simple. It was like watching some kind of sinister manifestation of all the evil accumulated in that basement, when, upon the arrival of another victim, the thirst for justice overflowed through a simple black telephone.
La trama no se queda atrás tampoco. La lucha por sobrevivir entre los niños contra un adulto fue llevada de manera excelente. El director supo mantener el suspenso desde que empezó hasta que terminó. A mí me mantuvo al filo de la silla porque me imaginaba lo peor. Con Stephen King como autor de la historia, nunca se sabe 🤣. Otro aspecto que me gustó bastante es que mantuvieron lo sobrenatural de manera sencilla. Fue como ver una especie de manifestación siniestra de toda la maldad acumulada en ese sótano, cuando al llegar otra víctima, la sed de justicia se desbordó a través de un simple teléfono negro.

The way they portrayed each victim's life story was truly moving. It makes you connect with the missing in some way, and you also support the idea that justice be done so these children can find peace after their tragic death at the hands of a psychopath, some people consider a neighbor. I haven't read the novel, but I understand there have been some criticisms of the film, alleging that the adaptation included unnecessarily prolonged scenes and also included the psychic powers of the protagonist's sister, which have nothing to do with the story told in the book.
La forma en la que contaron la experiencia vivida de cada víctima fue realmente conmovedora. Te hace conectar con los desaparecidos de alguna forma y también apoyas la idea de que se haga justicia para que estos niños encuentren la paz después de haber tenido una trágica muerte a manos de un psicópata que algunas personas tienen como vecino. Yo no me leí la novela, pero tengo entendido que hay algunas críticas con la película, donde acusan de que la adaptación tuvo escenas prolongadas de manera innecesarias y agregando también los poderes psíquicos de la hermana del protagonista que nada tiene que ver con la historia que se redacta en el libro.
Despite these aspects, I think they gave the film a good touch, more drama, more suspense—that's always a plus. And as always, not everyone can be happy in this world, and it's a fact that film adaptations based on literary novels will never, ever be the same. Why watch the same old stuff you've already read? What's the point? I'm one of those who prefer to see something different, original, and high-quality, like what director Scott Derrickson and screenwriter Robert Cargill offered. The two worked together to offer audiences a different kind of horror cinema without going too far on the supernatural level, but rather delivering psychological horror, which, in my opinion, is the best of all.
A pesar de esos aspectos, yo opino que le dieron un buen toque a la película como tal, más drama, más suspenso, eso nunca está de más. Y como siempre no a todos se les puede hacer felices en este mundo y es un hecho de que las adaptaciones cinematográficas basadas en novelas literarias, jamas y nunca serán exactamente iguales la una con la otra. ¿Para qué ver lo mismo que ya leíste? ¿qué sentido tiene? Yo soy de los que prefieren ver algo diferente, original y de calidad como lo que ofreció el director Scott Derrickson y el guionista de la película Robert Cargill. Ambos hicieron un trabajo en conjunto que le dio al público otro tipo de cine terrorífico sin esforzarse tanto a nivel sobrenatural, sino más bien brindando un terror psicológico, que en mi opinión, es el mejor de todos.

I very much liked the description of the role of Ethan Hawke. His acting indeed gave the film its fear element. Such a chilling, nostalgic touch was present in the 70s setting. Another aspect that I concur with is that the horror was not exaggerated by the relatively simple nature of the film. Passive destruction of the psychological, as well as the supernatural, aspect of The Black Phone!

Esta fu una excelente película, retrata muy bien el horror de una situación tan difícil y aterradora como lo es un secuestro. Los años 70 era más pacífico en algunos paises pero no en USA ya que fue precisamente durante esa época cuando aparecieron la mayoría de los asesinos en serie como John Wayne Gacy, Ted Bundy, David Berkowitz, Dennis Rader, el asesino del Zodiaco y finalmente Charles Manson con su banda de hippies locos.
Estoy de acuerdo en que esta película supo combinar muy bien el terror con lo sobrenatural, demostrando que definitivamente a quién más se debe temer es a los vivos

Buena reseña 👋🏻 son pocas las veces en que deseo que una reseña me de spoiler para saber si veo o no veo la cinta, pero esta película la tengo mucho tiempo agendada por ver 🤣. Ahora concuerdo contigo en que las adaptaciones de una obre literaria jamás va a hacer igual en la pantalla o material audiovisual, tenemos muchos ejemplos viejos como Harry Potter, GOT, o los mismo cuentos de Disney, es imposible llevar lo escrito en un libro al 100% igual al material audiovisual, de hecho, es la oportunidad de darse liberta creativa o contar la historia pero de forma distinta.

Así es, cada película es y será diferente a la adaptación cinematográfica. Cada persona lo interpreta distinto cuando hace la lectura, al igual que el director que adapta el libro. Espero que le des una oportunidad a la película y así aprovechas y ves también su segunta parte. Saludos!
Jamás he visto la película... pero sí la conozco gracias a lo popular que se ha vuelto en internet y más ahora con su secuela. No sabía que era otra adaptación más de una novela de Stephen King. Eso de que más de una generación haya tenido como medio de inspiración para obras de terror y drama a alguien como Stephen es interesante si te pones a pensar. Un genio incomprendido el man.
