Fureru. --- full of raw emotions!

I felt like watching an animated film today, so I browsed through my to-watch list on MAL, and decided on Fureru.

The rating isn't that high (6.89) on MAL, but for some reason, it was kind of asking me to watch it... Well, the heart of this animated film (director, writer and character designer) were all the same as in AnoHana which is an anime I'd forever hold dear in my heart. So I thought, I'd love to experience it again... and I did. :)

Let me tell you about it!

When Aki (the one in the middle) was young, he was always alone. He finds it really difficult to communicate and express his thoughts that he often ends up being violent.

He discovered a blocked portion of a cave and started unblocking it. When he got inside, he saw a lot of glowing threads and when he touched it... he saw a hedgehog-like creature.

There's a legend in their island. It's a creature called Fureru which is believed to be a god that connects people.

Aki took the creature with him to school but was discovered by two classmates, Ryou and Yuta. Something happened that day which connected the three.

They were inseparable. They grew up together in the island and took care of Fureru as a pet. Fastforward years later, when the three are already adults, they all decided to leave the island and moved to Tokyo.

Even though they live together, they follow different paths. Aki works part-time at a bar, Ryou works in a real estate company, and Yuta studies at a fashion design vocational school. Despite this, the three are still connected... all because of Fureru.

Whenever they touch, they can somehow hear each others' thoughts. Now, will this be a good thing or not? Watch it to find out. :)

I love this anime! Let me share my thoughts about the storyline...

At first, I though the idea of hearing someone's thoughts is tempting. I guess especially for the three of them. Aki, despite being close with the two, still finds it hard to express himself. So listening to his inner thoughts often helped them communicate easily.

It's like a shortcut for them... which somehow had a positive effect. They were able to avoid misunderstanding.

However, human emotions aren't that simple. Sometimes, there are things we have to keep within ourselves to protect our relationship... but at the same time, we also have to face it in order to move forward. Transparency can both heal and wound people. And sometimes, keeping quiet is a form of care.

The storyline really dug deep in processing these raw emotions. It might be confusing at first, but the way it was presented, both in a fantastical and realistic way, captured its meaning.

It's a story about friendship, growth, self-acceptance, and healing. It showed how people can be vulnerable and strong at the same time. A mythical creature might have been involved in the movie, but it's also somehow a representation of something or someone in our lives.

As for the technical part, both the art style and the animation style are to my liking. It's giving off AnoHana vibes, because it's vibrant and cinematic. The character designs were also more on the simple, and leaning more towards the cute style. FURERU is so fluffy and cute!!! But be careful, he can be prickly, too!

Lastly, I love the soundtrack of this animated film. It's called Monotone by Yoasobi...

I love how the song reflects the story.

There's also a scene related to Fureru that got me teary-eyed, but I'd keep it to myself for now.

All in all, it was an amazing watch. I'm happy I decided to watch it. It was raw, relatable, and heartwarming. It's the kind of movie that makes you reflect on life... which I think a great thing.

So yeah, I recommend you watch it if you haven't already. :)

I'll end this post here. Thanks for reading, and see you around! (^^,)/

The truth is, I've never seen it, but you've made me curious. The fact that the director, script, and character design are the same as AnoHana is already a huge plus, because that story had a huge impact on me. So I understand why it appealed to you! The concept of the glowing threads and the Fureru creature that connects people sounds super original and gives it that fantastical touch that I like. I'm definitely going to add it to my list. Thanks for the detailed recommendation!
