Papillon is a movie ,of some much emotions and pain wrapped in a man's story , Henri "Papillon" Charriere who was falsely accused he wasn't even given a chance to explain himself and was thrown into prison.
This wasn't any kind of prison it's the one that is built to destroy them and give the prisoners no hope of survival or going back to there normal life, this prison was built and structured to crush the body and mind. Make them so weak in spirit that the feel worthless to go back home. It wasn't a correction centre it was a place to turn you away from the normalcy of life and be controlled by guards.

The Theme of the movie is Freedom and the motif was Papillon constantly refusing to accept that he has lost all hope to been a free man ever again.
The prison guards and authorities have tried to break him many times, but despite the countless torture he didn't think giving up was part of his story.

He showed how much not accepting a label could do for the Human mind.

The film showed how they used a particular kind of punishment called ""Solitary Confinement" to condemned the minds of prisoners, so once they see you've refused to follow rules and you're asking for fair treatment you get to suffer the consequences of isolation, they let you stay in a dark cell all along with sufficient food or water for years just to break spirits, but Papillon refused to give up and continued to hold on to memories and be that helped him go through every single day that went by in that isolated cell.

Upon his quest for freedom , he gets a new friend Dega, who is quite an intelligent fellow, but having been a lawyer preferred critical thinking, proper planning to muscle and strength.
They both find comfort in eachother, this just makes life even easier as humans needs one another most times to endure and scale through hardship.

In the end He gets the freedom he so desires, which doesn't come easy though.
But this proves that been able to persevere and continually push for something with so much hope, can produce success, and that been a prisoner starts first from the mind, and not the body.
