You Never Can Tell I love me some pulp fiction

Hello Hello to the Hive

Are you feeling like some music and dance?

When it comes to movie soundtracks I probably have two at the top of my list, one is from Trainspotting and the other is from Pulp Fiction.

This blogpost serves as my entry to the contest from CineTV that you can read about the contest here .

As this is a collaboration with Rising Star I am going to talk about Pulp Fiction as music is an integral part of the movie.

So in a "salute" to our Rising Star musical friends we thought it would "hit a high note" to have our contest be about songs used in movies. This week's contest is to write about the best use of a song in a movie. So, first tell us the best use of a song in a movie. Then, a little bit about the song. And, finally, why you think it is great! That's it!

The Soundtrack is ridiculously good and the cast of actors and actresses was superb not to mention the director being a certain Quentin Tarantino!

Back to the soundtrack and it is a bit like me as it involves a bit of everything!

"The film contains a mix of American rock and roll, surf music, pop and soul. The soundtrack is equally untraditional, consisting of nine songs from the movie, four tracks of dialogue snippets followed by a song, and three tracks of dialogue alone. Seven songs featured in the movie were not included in the original 41-minute soundtrack."

To choose only one song is hard, but I think I have the perfect song that goes with the scene and indeed was one of my favourite scenes of the whole movie.

For all you readers that remember Pulp Fiction, can you guess the scene?

I am thinking some of you might have guessed it, it is the Dance scene.

I have included a clip of the whole scene although the actual song You Can Never Tell by Chuck Berry does not start until partway through the clip.

The dance scene comes early in the movie when Vincent Vega (John Travolta) has to babysit the gangster's wife Mia Wallace (Uma Thurman)

Hitman Vincent Vega takes his boss’ wife out to dinner and they goto a 1950s-themed diner. Mia enters them into a twist contest which of course the won and they walk off the dance floor with the trophy that mia wanted to win on an impromptu whim!

Is a mad moment that is in keeping with the whole of this crazy movie.

You Never Can Tell was written by Chuck Berry while he was in prison and it was released in 1964 on his album, “St. Louis To Liverpool”.

With all the criminals starring in the movie, a song penned from prison seems so in keeping with the madness of it all.

Travolta actually has a house and an airstrip in a town called Ocala in Central Florida where I have a house and I had the pleasure to meet him some years ago, he actually was much more pleasant and down to earth than I thought he would be!

This is a great contest and I shall be watching Pulp Fiction again over the weekend, so thanks for that!

Rising Star is the free to play musical NFT game that is taking the world by storm!
IF you aren't playing it, why not! There is a vibrant community here on Hive and if you are interested then feel free to sign for free via this link

Thanks for reading watching and listening and have a great rest of your week!

A very interesting film. I have not been to the movies for so long too!

avatar

Makes me wonder if they could still dance and do every move in that scene :D
Good luck with the contest!

avatar

hehe I have seen them reenact on chat shows over the years kuya

Very good choice, and also for me it's an already iconic scene in an instant cult movie. Tarantino is known for choosing very well the songs that will be part of the soundtrack of his movies. Cheers.

avatar

You are right, it really is a cult movie, and it was hard to choose which song to play as I love them all!
He is well known for his song choosing you are correct. Thanks for commenting Nelson, I appreciate it:)
