We can’t save the cinemas. The film industry needs to quit producing shit. I’m doubtful they can be saved at this point.

I hear you. In fact, that's been exactly my impression for years now. Kinda like landline phones. But I just saw a post this morning that suggested the opposite: an exceptionally good weekend for movie theaters. And I happened to have been to one, for the first time in over ten years. So even though it was a full-on coincidence, in retrospect it seems like a conscious group effort. But it wasn't. All I wanted to do was experience what theaters were like these days, and see what all the hype about the Odyssey was about.
It’s going to take more than one good weekend. The strikes combined with CovAIDS really hit them hard. I’d hate to see them become a thing of the past. However, the way people are consuming media has changed and the push by studios for streaming services heavily shifted consumer inertia. I suppose we’ll see.
