I'm a huge Woody Harrelson fan. I've been a fan since his early days as a bartender in the 80s sitcom, Cheers. His roles have come a long way since he played the shy, gullible bartender, back in the 80s. I love that he never really allowed himself to get type-casted. He stars in everything from horror to comedy and always plays his roles well. When I saw a title on Netflix starring Woody Harrelson that I hadn't seen before, I just had to watch it.

Woody Harrelson and Kevin Hart star in The Man From Toronto

The movie stars Woody Harrelson and Kevin Hart. I'm not a huge Kevin Hart fan but he did play the supporting role well.

The basic plot goes like this. Woody Harrelson is known as the "Man from Toronto". He's a hitman with a talent for extracting information from his victims. Kevin Hart plays Teddy a failing entrepreneur and general screw-up. After booking a cabin online and printing the directions with a low toner cartridge, Teddy (Kevin Hart), shows up at the wrong address and is mistaken for the hitman from Toronto. Shenanigans and hilarity ensue when the real hitman shows up (Woody Harrelson).

I enjoyed this movie, but mainly because I'm a Woody Harrelson fan. The storyline was cute and funny but it just seemed to lack something. IMHO it didn't really fully deliver. It was light on comedy, light on action. Both the production and script seemed a bit lacking. The ploy and storyline just seemed to fall flat as well.

Besides just being weak in general, this concept has been done 100 different ways in Hollywood. The movie lacked any originality at all.

Lovable bloke screws up.
Lovable bloke gets a case of mistaken identity.
Lovable bloke ends up way over his head.
Lovable bloke gets recruited by the FBI.
Action and hilarity should now ensue, but never really does with this one.

IDK, maybe I just expected too much. This is probably the first Woody Harrelson movie I didn't like. It didn't suck, but it wasn't really good either. It was a movie. It was something to stare at for 1 hour and 50 minutes. There was action, there was comedy, and laughs were had, but this movie just lacked in every direction in my opinion. There was nothing original here, and the storyline has been used to death. If you're looking for a couple of quick laughs and something to stare at for 2 hours, maybe it's not a bad movie. If you're looking for a great action/comedy, filled with originality, you're not going to find it here.

Loved Woody Harrelson in True Detective, Natural Born Killers, and Zombieland. Kevin Hart is one of those guys where I know some of his movies has to be more than okay but it feels like he's overexposing himself to the market through fatigued type-casting as a strictly humorous character.

That's another one I don't remember seeing. Thanks, I'm going to have to look for that one.

I think Natural Born Killers was a really strong breakout role for him after "Cheers". I enjoyed Zombieland too.

He does seem to play close to the same character in every picture I've seen him in.

I agree. Harrelson is one of those guys you expect to have the same or pretty similar personality in all his films. He's like a personality actor instead of a character one, not much transformation is attempted.

Absolutely, but he also knows how to make his personality fit whatever role he's playing.

Agree. Woody Harrelson is great. The story is flat. But the worst part was that Kevin Hart wasn't funny. I don't think he fits the role at all. I didn't watch to the end.
