MOVIE REVIEW: SINNERS MOVIE (2025). ONE OF THE BLOCK BUSTER MOVIES OF THE YEAR. PELÍCULA DE LOS PECADORES (2025). UNA DE LAS PELÍCULAS MÁS ÉXITADAS DEL AÑO.

Overview:
Sinners is an American horror film produced in 2025. The movie is produced, written and directed by the famous Ryan Coogler. The movie is pictured to have taken place in Mississippi Delta (1932). The movie features superstar Michael B Jordan in a dual role, twin brothers (Smoke and Stack Moore). The criminal twin brothers return back to their home town and then try to start life again as the face a sudden evil. According to Box office the movie is a success, as it has grossed $278.6 million in the United state and Canada. And $87.3 million in other territories and a total of $365.9 million.

Plot:
In Sinners, the identical twins (Smoke and Stack Moore) styled in blue and red themes respectively return to Mississippi, after spending time outside Mississippi (Chicago). Maximizing the money gotten from gangsters, they purchase a sawmill from a landowner to start a juke joint for the blacks in the community. Their cousin Sammie Moore, which is an aspiring guitarist joins them despite the warnings from his father, a pastor, warning him about the sins of blues music.

The twins then go on to recruit a pianist named Delta slim to act as a performer at the new juke joint. They also recruit a local Chinese shopkeeper and his wife as suppliers, cornbread as as a bouncer, Smoke’s wife as well. Smoke’s wife (Annie) actually believes in Hoodoo practices. Stack runs into his white ex girlfriend Mary, who hates him for abandoning her out of protection. Elsewhere in the movie, an Irish immigrant vampire gets shelter from a couple and eventually turns them into vampires.

On the opening night of the joint, Delta slim, Sammie Moore and his admirer Pearline perform on stage. During Sammie’s music presentation he unknowingly summons spirits from past, present and future to join the people in the joint. Conversely, the music attracts Remmick and his vampires, who Smoke prevents from gaining access to the joint. However Stack later gets the idea of getting income from outsiders and how it could be helpful. Mary eventually leaves the joint and she gets turned into a vampire. On returning to the joint, she turns Stack to a vampire and causes much chaos in the joint. Smoke tries killing her but she escapes after being shot. The crowd are told to leave the joint after the chaos.

After the departure of the crowd, Annie gathers everyone in the joint and shares her little idea with them and how they could survive and also defeat the vampires. On the other hand, Remmick and the other vampires are outside and are sharing like minds while their personalities remain intact.

Unable to enter the joint, Remmick tries to negotiate with the remaining humans in the joint, saying vampirism offers freedom and immortality. He also promises to leave in exchange for Sammie the musician, whose music he could use in summoning other spirits. He also reveals a shocking truth about the previous landowner of the joint. Smoke refuses to adhere to his brother and Remmick.

The Chinese supplier’s wife finally let’s the vampires in and a great fight ensues.

Annie, Delta Slim and others are killed as a result while Pearline is turned a vampire as well.

Smoke later wrestled his brother and defeats him, he also helps Sammie in defeating Remmick and the other vampires, who are burnt by the rays of the sun at sunrise.

Smoke sends Sammie home and kills the landowner at sunrise. Smoke dies and reunites with his wife and daughter after he’s fatally shot. Sammie returns home and ignores his father advice yet again, eventually he flees to Chicago.

60 years later, an elderly Sammie, now a wealthy blues musician is visited by ageless Stack and Mary at his club. Stack later reveals to Sammie that Smoke spared his life with a condition that Sammie lived in peace. Sammie again rejects their offer of immortality and performs for them. Sammie then reveals that the greatest day of his life was the night at the joint despite the violence and chaos that went on.

Review:
Ryan Coogler’s blend of horror and blues is fascinating. It’s really brilliant. The producer also delivers a powerful cultural message, which is deeply passed through with great visuals and has gained my attention and that of others across the globe. It also has a good rewatch value. Which would give the movie a solid 8.5/10 and is arguably the best movie of the year (2025)

The only flaw I think the movie has is that some characters didn’t gain much screen time; like Mary, Stack’s ex girlfriend. She really developed poorly in the movie. Nevertheless, the movie delivers it’s message thoroughly and it’s a movie everyone should see.
