Classic Comedy Fun For This Nineties Friday!

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});

It's Friday again which means it's time for another edition of Nineties Friday. For those unfamiliar with it, this is an event that comes around each Friday where you can create a post to share just about anything from the 1990's. It's a lot of fun, just use the tag #ninetiesfriday and it's never a bad idea to do a shoutout to @geneeverett . He started the event and someone usually walks away with some prizes!

Today I thought it would be fun to share a few movies that were true classic comedies from the decade. Plus add a few of their hilarious scenes. You can't do them true justice without watching them in full, but they are true 90's classics!

Dumb and Dumber

First up a movie that Roger Ebert called a film that truly lived up to it's name. Harry and Lloyd aren't the sharpest tools in the shed to say the least, but they have good hearts. If you haven't seen it it has Jim Carey at just about his comedic peak. Here's a trailer if you somehow haven't seen the movie.

And now a couple scenes that were really funny and hard to forget. First up the hot peppers challenge:

And the classic ending of the movie, yes it gives away just about everything. So don't watch it if you intend to see the movie for the first time. The classic, "What if he shot you in the face" scene:

Happy Gilmore

This is one of Adam Sandler's funnier movies of the 1990's and only recently made a part 2 this year. It portrays Sandler as golfer Happy Gilmore who has a very hot temper and lacks in maturity. Pretty much perfect for the actor. There whole movie is good, but here are a few scenes I picked out that are a lot of fun!

Probably my favorite scene from the movie is the cameo by the iconic host of The Price is Right, Bob Barker. He held that honor for many years before Drew Carey filled his shoes. The whole scene is just so out of character for Barker making the scene hilarious!

If you've ever seen the James Bond movies starring Roger Moore as 007, you'll surely remember the character Jaws portrayed by actor Richard Kiel. This guy:

He had a few cameos in the movie that were really funny, here's just one of them:

And another quick scene sure to make you laugh where Gilmore goes after an alligator that has eaten his ball.

What About Bob?

youtube.com

This comedy classic from 1991 paired up two comedic actors in their primes. Bob Murray and Richard Dreyfus squared up against each other in this comedy gem. Not surprisingly, the two actors both with very large egos didn't get along on set. But that animosity only channeled them to be funnier.

First up is a trailer to set the film up a bit. Murray is Bob Wiley a mental patient that all his therapist try to pawn off on colleagues because he drives them insane. Dreyfus is Dr. Leo Marvin the latest victim of Bob.

And just a tidbit of Murray's ability to play funny crazy:

Bob invades the Marvin family on vacation and inserts himself into their lives. Everyone loves Bob, except Leo who hates him.

And the movie comes to a point with the famous death therapy scene. It's a serious spoiler but it's hilarious!

SpongeBob SquarePants Movie

Since the series started in the 90's and I didn't throw in any music today, let's go ahead and watch SpongeBob's cover over Twisted Sister's "I Wanna Rock"! A little known fact is this was meant to be the end of the series, but popular demand wouldn't let him go away. Enjoy:

That will wrap up this edition of Nineties Friday, I hope you enjoyed it. Please feel free to leave any comments or questions below. Thank you everyone so much for all of your support, I deeply appreciate it. Have a great weekend everyone!

Some good humor flicks. I seen Happy Gilmore II defintely not as good as the first

avatar

They rarely are as good, but it was a good effort at least. It could have been much worse!

Yes at least its still the main character after all these years. I guess the plot makes sense since its been so long.

avatar

Just such a shame Bob Barker and Richard Kiel are gone, that would have been fun to see them again!

How's work treating you?

avatar

Yes it would have been nice to install them in the second one.

Well world events unfortunately have a bearing on my job so been pretty busy despite it being the end of the fiscal year which is usually slower.

Definitely classic comedy movies from the 90s!🤣
I had almost forgotten about that scene with Bob Barker Lol!🤣
What about Bob……
Now that’s stuck in my head. I’m gonna have to watch that movie again🤣😇👍

avatar

That Bob Barker scene was hilarious. It was just so out of character for him which made it so funny. His last line was really funny, "The Price is Right, bitch!" addressed to Sandler. Movies today are too careful not to offend or to be overly violent or profane to make up for what elements they have left behind in the past.

avatar

So very true my friend, now days we can’t offend anyone Lol!🙄
I hope you can work something out with your weekly giveaway post as well…….😇

Dumb and dumber — funniest movie of all time!

avatar

Ah, those are definitely some classics! Movies used to be so good back in the day!

avatar

Movies were much better back then, today they walk on eggshells too much trying not to offend. Comedy will always be offensive to some, and it's sad to see films being overly careful now days.

I'm a fan of both Jim Carrey and Adam Sandler and their careers. I've seen their comedy films so many times I've lost count. The ones you mention are some of the best they have, especially Happy Gilmore, which is a visual demonstration of the actor's explosive, fun, and aggressive side when he was younger. Much better than what he's now tried to do with his new sequel, really.

Good recommendations.

avatar

Sandler was better when he was younger, but I suspect we all were! Jim Carey sure has gone downhill as he's aged and isn't nearly as funny either. They were fun back in the 90's! Thank you!

Those were some great films. I do like Happy Gilmour and am an Adam Sandler fan.
Now in Scottish we have a word glaikit which means gormless and often having a vacant expression and just fits Dumb and Dumber acting at times 🤣🤣

avatar

They were fun movies weren't they? There are lots of Scottish words for me to learn, I like that one! Glaikit does fit the expressions of Harry and Lloyd well doesn't it, they most certainly weren't the sharpest tools in the shed!

avatar

jeje yes an apt description of expressions of Harry and Lloyd!
