[ENG-ESP] Monarch: Legacy of Monsters (SERIES REVIEW)

A group of scientists gather in 1956 to study the titans, which are large wild animals that live hidden in the oceans and mountains of the Earth. Together with government operatives, this group of paleontologists form the paranormal physical defence unit Monarch, created to study, control and destroy these gigantic threats and protect the planet and its inhabitants from them. Fifty years later, a group of young people make a discovery about the legacy left by the founders of Monarch, creating a familiar plot in their wake.

Un grupo de científicos se reúnen en el año 1956 para estudiar a los titanes, los cuales, son animales salvages de gran tamaño que viven escondidos en los océanos y montañas de la Tierra. Junto a operarios del gobierno, este grupo de paleontólogos conforman la unidad de defensa física paranormal Monarch, creada con el fin de estudiar, controlar y destruir estas amenazas gigantezcas y proteger de ellos al planeta y a sus habitantes. Cincuenta años después, un grupo de jóvenes realiza un descubrimiento acerca del legado que dejaron los fundadores de Monarch, generando una trama familiar a su paso.

This series created and produced by Apple and Legendary Pictures is set as a family drama chronologically placed between the 2014 Godzilla movie and 2019's Godzilla: King of the Monsters, telling the story of the origins of the Monarch institution from its beginnings. The TV show stars Anna Sawai in the title role, Wyatt Russell, Kiersey Clemons and Ren Watabe in supporting roles alongside Mari Yamamoto, Kurt Russell, Anders Holm and Joe Tippett.

Esta serie creada y producida por Apple y Legendary Pictures se sitúa como un drama familiar ubicado cronológicamente entre la película de Godzilla de 2014 y Godzilla: King of the Monsters de 2019, contando los orígenes de la institución Monarch desde sus inicios. Protagonizan este show televisivo Anna Sawai en el papel principal, Wyatt Russell, Kiersey Clemons y Ren Watabe en papeles secundarios junto a Mari Yamamoto, Kurt Russell, Anders Holm y Joe Tippett.

The best thing about this series is that every scene is unpredictable, so you can't tell what might happen in its sequences. It is not one of the typical series where there are few main characters and a hook of fillers that appear and disappear in the same episode, but rather, it gives prominence to each of those who appear in it.

Lo mejor que tiene esta serie, es que cada escena es impredecible, por lo que no se deja notar qué podría pasar en sus secuencias. No es de las típicas series donde hay pocos personajes principales y un gancho de rellenos que aparecen y desaparecen en el mismo capítulo, sino, que le da protagonismo a cada uno de los que sale en ella.

Its main genre is drama, with a science fiction base mixed with fantasy, creating a complete package of content full of emotions, action and mixed feelings. The series' main emphasis is on family, drawing us into a contour of transcendence and legacy that puts us in the shoes of these characters.

Su género principal es el drama, junto a una base de ciencia y ficción que se mezcla con la fantasía, logrando crear un paquete completo de contenido lleno de emociones, acción y sentimientos encontrados. La serie tiene como énfasis principal a la familia, haciéndonos adentrar en un contorno de transcendencia y legado que nos ponen en la piel de estos personajes.

Filled with flashbacks between 1955 and 2015, this series ties together other projects, including the first Godzilla film ever created, the film Kong: Skull Island and making the most recent film Oppenheimer canon by mentioning the events of the explosion of the first atomic bomb and the H-bomb. No actor from previous projects repeats his or her role, as reference is made to the negative and more affected side of the events that we saw happen in previous projects.

Llena de flashbacks entre 1955 y 2015, esta serie va uniendo lazos entre otros proyectos, y la primera película de Godzilla creada en la historia, la cinta Kong: Skull Island y haciendo canon la más reciente película Oppenheimer mencionando consigo los hechos ocurridos en la explosión de la primera bomba atómica y la bomba H. Ningún actor de proyectos anteriores repite su papel, ya que se hace referencia al lado negativo y más afectado de los hechos que vimos acontecer anteriormente en proyectos.

We can see King Kong, other lesser titans and Godzilla as the main monster but only in cameos, although Monarch has a more technological focus, compared to other projects in its interconnected universe. The intention of this series is in itself to lay the groundwork for expanding the mythology of these giants beasts in film.

Podemos ver tanto a King Kong, otros titanes de menos relevancia y Godzilla como monstruo principal pero sólo en cameos, aunque Monarch tiene un enfoque más tecnológico, comparado con otros proyectos de su universo interconectado. La intención de esta serie es en sí sentar las bases para expandir en el cine la mitología de estas bestias gigantes.

Bigfoot, Motah, The Sasquatch, Egyptian gods, the Loch Ness Monster and other creatures are named, hinting that we may soon see a live-action adaptation of these mythological animals. The graphics are on par with the predecessor films, even enhanced with today's 3D and CGI technology, stunts and a soundtrack that hints at both mystery and horror.

Bigfoot, Motah, The Sasquatch, los dioses egipcios, el monstruo del lago Ness y otros seres son nombrados, dejando caer que pronto puede que veamos una adaptación live-action de estos animales mitológicos. Los gráficos están a la par de las películas predecesoras, incluso mejorados con la tecnología 3D y CGI de hoy en día, escenas de riesgo y una banda sonora que insinúa misterio y horror a la vez.

The performances of Wyatt and Kurt Russell playing the younger and older version of the same character is Oscar-worthy, not to mention their strong resemblance. The young talents Anna, Kersey and Ren exceed the expectations of the trailer, respecting a modern and inclusive script in all its variations. The main language of the series is English, but Japanese and a little French predominate, as the cast is mainly made up of actors from Japan and the United States.

Las actuaciones de Wyatt y Kurt Russell interpretando la versión joven y mayor del mismo personaje es merecedora de un Oscar, sin contar su enorme parecido. Los jóvenes talentos Anna, Kersey y Ren superan las expectativas del trailer, respetando un guión moderno e inclusivo en todas sus variantes. El idioma principal de esta serie es el inglés, pero predominan mucho el japonés y un poco el francés, ya que su cast es representado por principalmente actores de Japón y estadounidenses.

There is no villain or antagonist here, if that's what you expect, no bad guys, no good guys, just different points of view of the same story, stating one of the most important morals a show can have: equality.

No hay villano o antagonista acá, si es lo que esperas, no hay malos, ni hay buenos, sólo puntos de vista diferentes de la misma historia, declarando con esto, uno de las moralejas más importantes que un show pueda tener: la igualdad.

I watched it without expecting anything, and ended up wanting more of it. I hope to see more of their characters in the next film Godzilla vs. Kong: The New Empire, as this series ends I can tell they will be connected, will we see a new titan that can stand up to these two giants? I'm liking how they're mixing these characters in the same place, sharing screen and story adapted to cinema, I see a lot of potential in the future. Below is my review.

La vi sin esperar nada, y terminé con ganas de más de ella. Espero poder ver algo más de sus personajes en la próxima cinta Godzilla vs. Kong: The New Empire, que como termina esta serie se pude notar que estarán conectadas. ¿Veremos a un nuevo titán que les pueda hacer frente a estos dos gigantes? Me está gustando como mezclan estos personajes en un mismo sitio, compartiendo pantalla e historia adaptadas al cine, veo mucho potencial a futuro. Abajo te dejo mi nota.
