The Continental - A John Wick Series (REVIEW)

The Continental is a series that is part of the John Wick's cinematic universe and tells the story of the takeover of the tower of the same name at the end of the 19th century, becoming the criminal agency we know from the movies. Premiered by the Peacock streaming network, this TV show manages to deepen with its scenes the origin of the older characters from the tapes and their younger versions. Know the importance of watching this series before the premiere of the fifth part of the main franchise, and get into a spectacular story of only 3 episodes set in the '80s.

The Continental es una serie que forma parte del universo cinematográfico de la saga de John Wick y narra la historia de la toma de la torre del mismo nombre a finales del siglo XlX, convirtiéndose en la agencia criminal que conocemos de las películas. Estrenada por la cadena de streaming Peacock, este show televisivo logra profundizar con sus escenas el origen de los personajes más viejos provenientes de las cintas y sus versiones más jóvenes. Colin Woodell stars in this series playing Winston Scott alongside Ben Robson as Francis Scott, also, we can find other actors such as Ray McKinnon, Mishel Prada, Hubert Point-Du, Kate Nhung, Jeremy Bobb, Adam Shapiro, Jessica Allain and Dan Li in supporting roles. Cormac (Mel Gibson) is the current owner of the Continental building in this show, and can be categorized as the antagonist of it, although his role stands out more for his career than for his character.

Colin Woodell protagoniza esta serie interpretando a Winston Scott junto a Ben Robson como Francis Scott, también, podemos encontrar a otros actores como Ray McKinnon, Mishel Prada, Hubert Point-Du, Kate Nhung, Jeremy Bobb, Adam Shapiro, Jessica Allain y Dan Li en personajes secundarios. Cormac (Mel Gibson) es el actual dueño del edificio continental en este show, pudiéndose catalogar como el antagonista del mismo, aunque su papel destaca más por su carrera que por su personaje.

Charon (Ayomide Adegun) is a key character here, being the very basis of the unfolding of the events of this story, getting to know his character in a more personal and intimate way. In itself, The Continental is a very well composed and produced action drama with violent action scenes and small moments of suspense, which from the first ten minutes give us a preview of what the series is going to be about and do not make us wait so long to understand its essence.

Charon (Ayomide Adegun) es un personaje clave aquí, siendo él, la base misma del desenvolvimiento de los hechos de esta historia, llegando a poder conocer a su personaje de una forma más personal e íntima. En sí, The Continental es un drama de acción muy bien compuesto y producido con violentas escenas de acción y pequeños momentos de suspenso, que desde los primeros diez minutos nos adelantan de qué va a tratar la serie y no nos hacen esperar tanto para entender su esencia.

The best thing about it is that even though each episode is over an hour long, it doesn't contain a single second of filler, adequately introducing each character and their evolution as the series progresses. Colin's performance as Winston is a marvel, showing us a character that is dark but at the same time knows how to have fun and with his words conveys a certain level of confidence on screen.

Lo mejor que tiene es que a pesar que cada capítulo dure más de una hora, no contiene ni un segundo de relleno, presentando adecuadamente a cada personaje y su evolución a medida que la serie avanza. La actuación de Colin como Winston es una maravilla, mostrándonos un personaje oscuro pero que a su vez sabe divertirse y con sus palabras transmite cierto nivel de confianza en pantalla.

Another element that stands out is that it has a wide soundtrack of different times that make us feel as if we were there while watching it, perfectly combining each moment with each sound. There is a good adaptation of the clothing, customs and standard of living of the American citizens of that time, where we can appreciate the true capitalism in full light and what it attracts.

Otro elemento que destaca de la misma es que posee una amplia banda sonora de épocas diferentes que nos hacen parecer como si estuviéramos allí mientras la vemos, combinando perfectamente cada momento con cada sonido. Se realiza una buena adaptación de la vestimenta, costumbres y nivel de vida de los ciudadanos estadounidenses de aquella época, donde podemos apreciar el verdadero capitalismo a plena luz y lo que éste atrae.

The Continental connects directly with the first John Wick movie, although the character played by Keanu Reeves doesn't appear in any of its chapters, neither in his adult or young version. The events transpired here take place in the same universe as the films, serving as a prequel with 30 years of difference to the fourth installment of the main saga, so it can be confirmed that it's canon.

The Continental conecta directamente con la primera película de John Wick, aunque el personaje interpretado por Keanu Reeves no hace aparición en ninguno de sus capítulos ni en su versión adulta ni joven. Los hechos transcurridos acá suceden en el mismo universo que las películas sirviendo como precuela con 30 años de diferencia hacia la cuarta entrega de la saga principal, por lo que se puede confirmar que es canónica.

It's not yet known if we will see a second season since the series is made to end there and make way for new characters to enter the Wick's story for his next tapes, although it's very likely that we'll see a new spin-off based on the KD's character due to his acclaim by fans. Aún no se sabe si veremos una segunda temporada ya que la serie está hecha para acabar allí y darle paso a nuevos personajes a que entren a la historia de Wick para sus próximas cintas, aunque es muy probable que sí veamos un nuevo spin-off basado en el personaje de KD debido a su aclamación por parte de los fanáticos.
