IRL Tone Sizzle

This is a tone sizzle I edited for a screenplay I wrote called IRL (In Real Life). For demonstration purposes only. I am turning off the ability to earn off of this post.

STORY: A programmer at a social media company fights for his life after an online mob calls for his assassination in the name of social justice after he offends a violent social media mob.

I used this sizzle to convey the story and tone of a hypothetical future and film based on the screenplay. I wrote IRL five years ago when cancel culture started going mainstream and around topics that were setting the Internet on fire at the time.

Since then, several of the scenes I wrote seem eerily familiar while others haven't panned out... yet. The screenplay was inspired by Jon Ronson's "So You've Been Publicly Shamed" and the hypothetical concept of assassination markets and blockchain technology that can be used to fund them.

Films used in sizzle:

The Purge 2
The Purge 3
Disconnect
The Crash
Thomas Crown Affair

This is fantastic! So good to hear and see you on screen. I really like the plot and theme of this; it resonates in similar circles with an idea I've been floating around for a short film.
Excellent use of Jon Ronson in the intro too.
This whole thing is super slick. What do you do with this kind of sizzle reel? Do you use it to pitch?

Thanks, Ash! Yeah. That was the idea behind doing this sizzle. I was going to pursue IRL as my my next project until I wrote The Tear, which has become my focus. The sizzle hasn't quite had the effect I wanted, but I also haven't been pursuing it aggressively. I keep trying to get my manager to help me package it, but I don't think he has a clear path towards funding for something that is controversial. I actually just resent him the sizzle as a reminder! :)

I really enjoyed Jon's book and always wanted him to lead the sizzle, even if it is a bit on the nose. He's just so disarming that it leads to great contrast with what is to follow. The following montage really makes your eyes grow. I keep forgetting how bad those few years were - and how things in many respects have gotten worse - and it's a good reminder.

Tone sizzles are semi-common. They really help convey a vision, but not necessarily increase your chances of success. It's just a lot faster than reading a whole script. Looking forward to sharing The Tear crowdfund video / sizzle. Hopefully THAT one has the desired effect.

What is your story about?
