Movie review: The Dragon, the Hero
Easy money
Can one make money as a kung fu fighter?
It is not as easy as one would think.
Just like everything in life, a challenge may seem to be simple at first.
However, when the size of the task at hand is actually felt and understood, the challenger often fails to win the prize, and gets beaten badly up by his opponent.
Even if he wins, there is always a nasty surprise waiting for him around the corner to deprive him of the hard-earned fruits of his victory.
Easy comes, easy goes, that is ill-gotten money.
In the end, you only need to have with you a coin to give to the ferryman of the dead...
You fight against time
Your real enemy is not your physical opponent, no.
His and your fighting skills, techniques, and styles might be overcome, and there is always a chance of facing an opponent who is better than you.
So, you really fight against time.
An hourglass is there to remind you of the fact that you don’t have all the time in the world to win the prize or save your life.
Don’t blame the wrong person
When fighting, whether in a kung fu contest or to make ends meet in life, you need to make sure that you don’t blame the wrong person.
Get your facts right, and know who is your enemy and who is your friend.
This is very important, because confusing an enemy for a friend will result in you spending your energy and risking your life to fight the wrong person, while your real enemy gets away.
Disrespect to a woman is mad-dog behavior
Attacking a defenseless woman is similar to a mad dog attacking its prey.
Only someone who is not in their right mind would do such a thing.
Having the rabies would justify this behavior, and cause a person to bite everyone they come across.
Such a carnivore does not deserve to be called a human, and his punishment will be relentless.
Always remember your training
When faced with a difficult situation, such as fighting a seemingly invincible enemy, resort to your training.
Even when everything you try fails, your training will never betray you.
Your mind will eventually recall the right way to respond to a situation, according to your training, and let you emerge victorious.
This is where the true value of a good master and teacher lies.
You will remember him for life, in spite of his humble and unassuming appearance, and possibly unorthodox training that he gave you.
An “invincible” enemy has a weak spot
There will be a case of fighting an enemy who looks impossible to beat.
Whatever you do to defeat him, he will find a way to push you back and knock you down, to say the least.
This should not leave you in despair.
This “invincible” enemy always has a weakness that you need to discover to be able to beat him.
His weakness is usually hidden in where he draws his power and strength from.
Once you find out his source of strength, you only have to cut his connection to it, making him literally unable to defend himself; victory is yours, as a result.
