At the age of 68, the creator of iconic Japanese books, which later served as material for adaptations of equally iconic horror films, has died. He was the author of Ring and Dark Water. I was never a fan of them, but they were so popular that they were even fashionable in Poland at one time (I don't remember the exact date, but I was a teenager at the time – probably after the premiere of Ring 1). I know many of them are cheap junk, but there were also some gems. This is also important news for the anime world, because although cinema and anime are different worlds, they sometimes intertwine. There were several anime that drew from this genre to some extent (or at least drew inspiration from it). Higurahi, Another, Mononoke, Shiki, and Ghost Hunt.
