The Jeffrey Dahmer story

I have to admit that I wasn't sure if I even knew about Jeffrey Dahmer before I started watching this TV Show on Netflix. I have watched quite a few of these documentaries and shows about serial killers over the years but some are just easy to forget. Jeffrey Dahmer isn't one of them though, this is one you will not forget once you've read, or in this case, seen what he did. If you look up the word "monster" in the dictionary I think it's safe to say he fitted the glove perfectly.

Where some of the stories about serial killers and how they became one have been interesting to watch, I have to admit that it took me at least 5 attempts before I managed to finish the first episode because I was just not in the mood to watch these crimes he committed. I was appalled by him from episode one and it was one of these shows that I had a hard time pressing the resume button. But both my boyfriend and me were too curious not to watch it so a few days ago, we decided to give it a chance.

Too gross at times

I had a hard time to not feel nausea watching what this guy did with his victims. It was all quite visual, a bit too much for me honestly. I had quite a few scenes where I turned my head because I didn't want to see it. I really wonder how one can become such a monster, this was one twisted mind for sure.

His crimes could have been prevented

If only the cops had listened to the complaints of the neighbors, who were quite clear in their complaints that something was truly off, they could have prevented a lot of victims. I really felt for his direct neighbor because she was probably the one suffering the most from all his neighbors because she could instantly smell the odors coming through the ventilation system when he committed another crime and was using power tools throughout the night to dismantle the body. Not only was this horrifying for her to experience, the frustration of the cops not taking her seriously must have been traumatizing to say the least, seeing one young man after the other disappear after coming to Dahmer's home.

I imagined being one of these cops

That didn't take this lady seriously in her complaint, while looking at a 14 year old boy, who was told to be his boyfriend, according to Dahmer when the cops asked him. He had tried to perform a lobotomy on this man and he could not speak or whatsoever, yet the cops took him upstairs into Jeffrey's home. I was baffled by this part and you'd think they had some regrets later for making a very wrong decision at that moment. I won't spoil anything further because you will have to watch it yourself to see how they responded afterwards.

Conclusion

The show did not only bring up the crimes of the serial killer Dahmer, but also the struggle of fight of the community who was not heard by the police and were clearly not important enough for the police to act when crimes were committed. I felt for those people as much as for the families of the victims. I have experienced a similar phase in my life where clearly our lives were not worth anything anymore to be offered any help, and although this was not the same situation, I feel their frustration and also the anger of not being heard or believed while watching this. Therefore I may warn you, it could bring up some memories or trigger heavy emotions watching this show if you experienced something like this in the past.

Thanks for reading!

I admit it was a bit horrifying at times thinking what he did to his victims but once I got through episode one, I had to see it all. I would say "enjoy" but those may not be the right words :)

I'm a true crime junky. You ever watch Mike on YouTube? His channel is called That Channel. Him and another show called Coffee House Crime hosted by a chap named Adrian.

My point is; forensic files, murder mystery, cold case murders, et cetera, I dig it. But Dahmer, nah, DanDays has no desire for that one.
