Just what I needed: 4 seasons of episodes!

With our emigration just around the corner, I wasn't really looking for a tv show that I could get sucked into, having 4 seasons to catch up on, but, here we are, I found one anyway!
I think it was because Netflix mentioned it was on the top watchlist of Hungary that made me check it out, and honestly, I have no clue if "the royals" ever caught my attention before. But it did last week and now I can already admit I finished the full 4 seasons as I finally took some evenings off from working because my brain needed to relax a bit more so short before our emigration. I'm glad I found something nice to watch to kill the evenings, haha.

I didn't do any research before watching

Usually, I don't even watch a trailer or read about a show online, I just start watching and hope for the best. This one was no different. I was home alone for the afternoon for once, and I could have worked during these hours but my headache told me to keep some distance from a screen for a bit, so I did. I kept a safe "watching distance" on the sofa inside and enjoyed the first episodes of The Royals on Netflix without being interfered with by anyone, nice! During the evening, I caught up with the work that was waiting for me and so my day ended just as it should, and I even managed to get in bed an hour earlier than the usual bedtime.

Sucked into the story completely!

Even when I went to bed, I was still sucked into this show about the royal family of Great Britain. When I started writing this blog I was just about to see the season finale of season 2 and I figured I could kill some time by writing this while my boyfriend was catching up on the episodes. I think the characters of this show are performing great, I love the strong yet egocentric queen played by Elizabeth Hurley. The role suits her well and I think she was the right person for this role. The rebel princess played by Alexandra Park also shows great performance, she's the wild child of the family and quite a character who also faces a huge addiction problem.

Crazy family members

While writing this I'm going to try to write about the main storyline and refrain from (too many, lol) spoilers. The royal family is a bit of a crazy family, to be honest, not only is the princess a real party girl consuming more drugs than her body should be able to handle (haha), she's turned into a lost soul and seems quite unhappy in her life. She tries to escape from the madness at the palace, which honestly, I can't blame her. The amount of crazy in this family is extremely high, and you'll be surprised by what dear granny is capable off.

The Dutchess role is played by Elizabeth Taylor btw. So we have Elizabeth Taylor and Hurley in one show, where miss Hurley seems to have some childhood traumas thanks to living in a toxic family, which also was the reason that she eventually became queen. So on one hand she had everything her heart desired (or didn't she?) but on the other hand, was all this power, money, and fame the key to her happiness? You will have to go and watch it for yourself to find out.

King Simon: the people's king

King Simon is the head of the family and he seems the most normal person with the kindest heart from the very start of the show. Unfortunately, he won't be there for all seasons, which is a true shame as he's missed! He made sure to leave a legacy though, and king Simon is remembered throughout all four seasons of the royals.

The family goes through a lot during all seasons, enough to assure a few burned-out people in every family, I'd say. But some of the hard times also appear thanks to them not taking no for an answer and feel entitled to get whatever they want. And whatever they want is not always in line with the rest of the royal family's desires. This causes quite a few internal family conflicts throughout the show, one heavier than the other.

Robert Henstridge, the eldest prince

Robert is the one that will take over Simon's throne once he can no longer rule, but unfortunately, this doesn't go according to plan. Without going into much detail and throwing spoilers here, I was surprised that my view about Robert changed so much from season one to three and even more so in the last. It's hard to say more but let's just say nothing is what it seems and some people turn out to wear a mask constantly fooling the whole family.

Plenty of other characters that play key roles

The royal family has in-house security and even these characters play very important roles from the beginning to the end of all 4 seasons. Of course, people will fall in love too and there will be lovers making their appearance, some more important appearances than others, of course. There will be love, there will be heartbreak and there will be a lot of deception. Some people do anything to get close to the royal family.

Trailer

The cliffhanger of the fourth season is one that I never expected. I'm personally hoping for another season, I didn't check if they planned on though. I decided to share a trailer of season 1 only, so you can see for yourself if you will start watching and take it from there. I would recommend this one if you enjoy some posh and drama.

Haha, you're most welcome, I will do the hard work for you :)

But honestly, I bet once we are in Spain, there will be a lot more walking and enjoying the surroundings compared to watching tv.

Thanks for the CTP and pizza!

This sounds interesting :) I sometimes don't read reviews and just start watching. If the story is intriguing enough and I like the acting, I'd keep watching but if it's blah, I just skip it hehe.

Yes I'm the same, sometimes I land on a show because of a trailer but more often I just start it and see if I like it. This one is worth it imo :) let me know if you like it when you try it :)
