Atlanta broke down all the walls in my head // Atlanta quebrou todas as paredes da minha cabeça

When I started hearing about Atlanta it was because some people said that "if you liked Twin Peaks you might like Atlanta" and at the height of my stupid whiteness I thought: how can a series about rap/hip-hop look like Twin Peaks? What a surprise it was to see so much of Lynch in such an unpretentious series about the life of an aspiring manager of a local rapper (who happens to be his cousin), or rather, to see someone using fantastic realism (and even surrealism) in a much more "in touch" and connected way than David Lynch himself! With each passing episode I felt more and more attached to the genius mind of Donald Glover, the man responsible for directing and creating the series (as well as the other great directors involved), the series is anything but predictable.

I had only seen the two seasons available on Netflix and always insisted my partner and I watch them together so she could get to know them. When I finally went to show it to her, I was surprised to see that another season had been released and then I found out that another had just been released (but it's still not available online - at least in Brazil). Reviewing the first two seasons (and seeing the third for the first time) I had the clear realization that not only had Donald Glover surpassed Lynch and brought light to a plethora of racial issues that warp our society to the point of cracking it, but that he had done something that until then was unheard of for me, immersing himself in a reality characteristic of David Foster Wallace's literature (without that ever being his intention), especially in relation to the kind of absurdity that governs the author's thousand-plus page novel Infinite Jest.

Not satisfied with Atlanta's brutal impact from these angles, it's clear in the third season that Glover, whether on purpose or not, has succeeded immensely in flirting with the crackling dystopia in episodes that are infinitely superior to the last few seasons of Black Mirror, with the only difference being the deliberately exaggerated and intense focus on blacks versus whites, like a portrait of reinforced colors to bring more light to social issues that are often treated with warm cloths, without the proper intensity. Many may think that Glover has overdone it this season, but I just think that more and more he has embraced expansive and intense creativity, allowing himself all kinds of madness and metaphors, semiotics and fantastic reality dystopias. I'm looking forward to the fourth season, but I'm deliberately waiting a bit longer to digest the third before going into it.

This series certainly exploded my head. I'm on season 3 as well. It's interesting that each episode can seem somewhat distant from the previous one, because it plays with so many genres, ideas, making it can have its own essence, being tragic, violent or in some cases comical.

One of my favorite episodes is where Paper Boi gets lost in a forest, that was surreal.
