This time I want to review a film from South Korea entitled THE TOWER. This film was released in 2012 and won an award.

This review contains a lot of spoilers.
Tower Sky, the magnificent twin towers that are the pride of the citizens of Seoul, South Korea, is located in the central business district of Yeouido. It consists of 2 towers namely City View (Facing directly to the heart of Seoul) and River View (Facing the Han river). This tower also has 108 floors with an occupancy of 30,000 people divided into residents, staff in offices and also in shopping centers.
On December 24, the management of the building that owns Tower Sky, namely Mr. Jo (Cha In Pyo), held a party with the theme "White Christmas" for all the residents of Sky Tower. Considering that the residents here come from billionaires, celebrities, officials and other important figures. Therefore, the building management created a luxurious and classy party.
Because the weather news said that it wouldn't snow on Christmas, the management of the building finally made artificial snow by flying it via helicopter from the top of the building to keep the White Christmas party running smooth and amazing. The owner of the Sky Tower rented 9 helicopters which sprinkled white powder like snow making it seem as if snow was really falling from the sky and attracted the attention of all the building's occupants, employees and even residents who were around the building. Including general managers, namely Lee Dae-ho (Kim Sang-kyung) and Seo Yoon-hee (Son Ye-jin) a restaurant manager at Tower Sky. All residents really enjoyed the party until finally the disaster happened.
RESPONSIBLE FATHER FIGURE
This film begins with the family background of Lee Dae-ho (Kim Sang-kyung), a single-parent who has a daughter named Ha-na (Jo Min-ah) who is approximately 8 years old. Like parents in general who always try to make their children happy, so did Lee Dae-ho who tried to seduce Ha-na to come to Tower Sky because he had to work at Christmas and canceled his event at the amusement park. Luckily, Ha-na agrees and goes with Lee Dae-ho to celebrate Christmas at the Sky Tower.
Arriving at Tower Sky, Lee Dae-ho and Hana walked around and looked for a place to leave Hana temporarily. Luckily, Lee Dae-ho met Seo Yoon-hee (Son Ye-jin), a Tower Sky restaurant manager who liked him. Because Ha-na knows that her father likes Seo Yoon-hee, she quickly tries to become friendly. It didn't take long, Ha-na and Seo Yoon-hee became close friends. And Seo Yoon-hee accompanied Ha-na while Lee Dae-ho finished his work.
IGNORED NEGLIGENCE
When all the party preparations were almost finished, a small incident caught the attention of Lee Dae-ho and Seo Yoo-hee in the kitchen. A chef carelessly sets a small fire in the kitchen and causes a bit of chaos. Dae-ho is suspicious because the spring-cooler, which should have been activated when there is a fire, is actually not working. Dae-ho investigated and finally found that the water machine in tower A (River View) had frozen due to the cold weather. Dae-ho reports it to the building owner, Mr. Jo, but Mr. Jo said that it could be fixed later after the party was over.
BEGINNING OF DISASTER
The party started, all the invited guests were very happy. They all came one by one and gathered in the ballroom, where the party was being held. Music and twinkling lights adorn the atmosphere which makes all visitors amazed.
The visitors began to count down to start the party which was accompanied by the fall of the artificial "snow" that had been planned. The countdown begins and artificial snow is scattered over the Tower Sky tower which is spread by 9 helicopters that have been hired by Mr. Jo. All visitors were happy and said "Merry Christmas" to each other as well as Yoo-hee and Ha-na who could only wish Lee Dae-ho via Video Call because Dae-ho was on the ground floor.
After a while all the visitors enjoy the beautiful snow and magnificent fireworks. One of the helicopters lost control due to strong winds and crashed into the side of the Sky Tower building and there was an explosion which caused floors 60-65 to burn badly.
HORRIBLE ATMOSPHERE
When the building started to burn, the atmosphere became chaotic and the visitors panicked. They were running and trying to save themselves. There were many casualties in this incident. Many visitors scramble to use the elevator as well as Yoon-he and Ha-na who participate in the elevator which incidentally cannot be done during an emergency. And sure enough the elevator stopped in the middle of the road and caught fire, burning everyone inside it. Luckily Yoon-he and Ha-na got out of the elevator.
NEVER HOME BEFORE IT'S OFF
The Sky Tower fire finally reached the ears of the legendary firefighter Kang Young-ki (Sol Kyung-gu), without thinking he went straight to the location with the rest of his team. Even though at that time he was planning to celebrate Christmas with his wife and even he had prepared a cake for his wife. But he ignored it because for him the fire was his responsibility.
When they got there, everything was in chaos, the fire was already very big and they tried to use the stairs but they couldn't because the location of the fire was very high. Finally Young-ki and the team broke through the building to the location of the fire. They felt stuck because while heading to the location several floors collapsed and hindered their steps. Luckily at the same time Lee Dae-ho accidentally bumped into one of the firefighters and introduced himself that he was the general manager who knew the entire design of the Sky Tower building and directed the firefighters to a passable path.
THE STRUGGLE OF A FATHER
Lee Dae-ho, who was on the ground floor at the time of the incident, rushed to the top floor where Ha-na was. Floor by floor he went through until he arrived at the floor that surprised him. A middle-aged woman is dying when her foot was crushed by a rock, almost giving up but Dae-ho can't leave her alone. It took quite a while until finally the woman was able to escape from the rocks that hit her feet. Dae-ho takes her with him and invites her upstairs because there will be a helicopter to help them.
The journey they went through was not easy, the many pieces of rock and the heat of the building made it difficult for them to get to the top floor. After many problems they finally made it to the top floor and Dae-ho met his daughter Ha-na as well as Yoon-he who had been accompanying Ha-na.
While waiting for help suddenly the floor they lived in exploded and destroyed the floor and everything in it.
Dae-ho rushes to carry Ha-na and hold Yoon-he so they won't be separated. When Dae-ho looks out the window there is a gondola that is used to clean glass buildings (Gondola Man). Armed with the gondola, Dae-ho and the others try to get off the gondola. This scared some people into having to jump out of windows. Not to mention they had to cross to building B (City View) to be safe from the fire because there was no access they could use to get out of the building.
BETWEEN LIFE AND DEATH
Tower Sky has a glass-shaped pedestrian bridge that connects Building A and Building B. This bridge is a witness to how they struggle between life and death. While crossing the bridge they tried simultaneously, luckily the firefighters saw them and tried to stop them and asked them to stop and turn back. Young-ki and his men Lee Sun-woo try to find a way by marking bridges worth walking on. When finished they tried to cross one by one.
Unfortunately, when Ha-na was crossing there was a huge explosion that destroyed the bridge. Luckily, Ha-na had time to run and jump into building B until she finally survived. And now there are 7 people left, one of which is Dae-ho, Yoon-hee and Young-ki.
FINAL RESCUE
The Sky Tower has a water tank containing 800 tonnes of water on the top of the building, causing the building to tilt and nearly collapse. One way is to blow up the water tank to slow down the collapse of the building. But this requires important access that only certain people can do, one of which is Dae-ho as the general manager. Young-ki and Dae-ho head to the tank and detonate it, eventually extinguishing the fire. It's just that the building will still collapse.
