Captured ; Movie review

I watched this interesting movie 'Captured' by Stella Damascus, one of Nollywood female actresses. They start with Stella Damascus who is called Wuyi in the movie, calling her daughter Arin when she is coming home, Arin tells her that soon after the dancing class. Wuyi expecting her daughter to come home after hours of not seeing her daughter, she calls her number, but her number is not going through, she calls her help to call her husband driver that always helps to pick her up, the driver told her that he and boss went somewhere (referring to Wuyi husband Jide), but Jide has sent another person Kelvin his mistress driver to go pick her up. Wuyi was angry that how can Jide send someone else to pick up their daughter, she tells the help to bring the car key but the help tells her that Jide has kept the car key and locked the door to the room where the car key is. Wuyi said fine, she will take a cab, she takes a cab to her dancing school, when she gets there, the coach told her that she left 45 mins ago and signed out with someone named Kelvin.

They start trying their numbers but couldn't reach any of them. She called her husband's nephew named Tomiwa, the next morning she and Tomiwa went to the police station to report as the husband is not around, he is with his mistress and switched off his phone. The policeman asked necessary questions and tells them, he will get to work and will call if he has any information. The husband arrived home and Wuyi attacked Jide why he switched off his phone, Jide gets angry and says why will Wuyi talk to him like that, he was about to raise his hand on him and beat her when Tomiwa interferes and quickly says Arin is missing, he was shocked and he said he will call the police but they told him they have already done that.

The police started their investigation by inviting everyone connected to the daughter, the husband says they will invite Jide's mistress too but Jide gets angry and says his mistress didn't know anything about it. That is when Wuyi knows that he and the mistress have gotten married silently without her knowing. When they got home, Wuyi asked why he got married to the mistress and when did Jide plan on telling her, he said never, he is not planning on telling her, one thing leads to another while talking and Jide attacked Wuyi, he holds her on her neck that she was unable to breathe again. That is how he constantly abuses her and says many hurtful words to her. She can't go out unless Jide approves it. She stopped her from working and will not give her money to do anything though he is very rich. That is how she has been living her life in Jide's house.

The kidnappers sent him an email that they need a ransom of 30,000 dollars to free his daughter, the police told him to negotiate with them for 25,000 dollars, they agreed. Jide collect the money and change it to dollars. Tomiwa his nephew and Jide set out to go and exchange the money for their Arin. They drop the money at the venue while the police were hiding. After Jide and Tomiwa left, the person that wants to pick the money up shows up and the police arrest them. They take them to the station for questioning and to know the whereabouts of Arin, the kidnappers say they are just acting that there is nothing like kidnapping.

In Jide's house when he came back, no one is at home the house is empty, he started to call Wuyi and the helper but no one answered, he was surprised because Wuyi can't go out without his approval. When he goes inside the room he saw a letter that says that if Jide sees this letter that means their plan worked and she, Wuyi and Arin have left the country then they flashed back to when Jide will beat Wuyi in front of Arin and abused her. Arin will go out silently and started crying for her Mom. She tells her mummy that they should run away, her mummy tells her that she didn't have anyone in Nigeria and she didn't have any money to rent and set themselves up for business that if they run away they will suffer.

One day Arin and Tomiwa went out and she tells Tomiwa that he needs his help that she wants to plan her own kidnap and wants Tomiwa to help her so that they can collect money from her Father and she and her mother can use it to travel out of the country. After many arguments, Tomiwa accepts, she also convinced her mother though not easy and she finally agreed. This meant that three of them planned the kidnapping together, with Arin being the mastermind behind it, despite having just finished secondary school.

Jide finished reading the letter, it was not stated that Tomiwa knows anything about it because they don't want to implicate him. Jide started drinking alcohol and the officer comes to visit him to tell him the kidnap was fake, Jide says he knows already and shows the police the letter, he gives Jide his money and the police told Jide that the money in the envelope is fake, Jide was surprised and they flashed back to show when Wuyi has sent the help to change the money in Jide's room, she also gave the helper some money and told her to run away.

Jide was depressed and I wonder why he was sad maybe because of his daughter because he said Wuyi always irritates her and she wants her out of his life. The movie is an interesting one and that is why I always advised ladies to have their own work before marriage and they should not allow any man to tell them to leave their job before marriage. If any man wants her wife to stop working, He should open a business for her because having a savings as a wife or having your own income or finances is your power in time of trouble, in time of abuse, many women stay in their abusive marriage because they had no money to stay on their own after separation. Separation in an abusive marriage is allowed because no one will say well done to a dead woman, leave and stay alive.

Another thing I learned in the movie is that children see everything that happens in the home and no child will stand his father beating his mother, that kind of child will just develop hatred towards the father. I don't know why it's just difficult for a man to say they can't go on with the marriage, just say you don't love the woman again and let her move out instead of abusing her.
