This movie titled Farmer’s Bride is a joint production by three people, including Jack Enneth.

The film begins with Funmi telling her parents she doesn’t want to marry Odun, the farmer, because she feels he is too old. She also wants to marry for love and further her education before settling down. Her mother insists she must marry the farmer and give birth quickly, saying she doesn’t want Funmi to end up like Sister Labake, the teacher who is still unmarried at 30.

The next day, Funmi is forced into the marriage, but she is clearly unhappy. The following morning, she meets Morenike, Odun’s late younger brother’s wife, in the kitchen preparing food. Funmi is surprised to see her in the house so early. Later, Morenike’s son, Femi, returns from school and tells his mother he wants to stop schooling and take over his late father’s wooden work.

After some time in the village, Funmi begins an affair with Femi, who is Odun’s nephew. One thing leads to another, and Funmi becomes pregnant for Femi without her husband or Morenike knowing. Funmi then convinces Femi to let them kill Odun. She poisons him, and he dies.

Morenike becomes suspicious of Funmi and confronts her, but Funmi denies everything. Morenike later did a charm that will awaken Odun’s spirit to fight for justice. According to their tradition, if a widow chooses to remain in her husband’s house, she can marry any male left in the family. Since Femi is the only male, Funmi agrees to marry him, which had been their plan all along.

As time goes on, Femi begins cheating on Funmi, and she starts regretting her actions. She remembers how well Odun used to treat her. Funmi complains to her mother, and together they visit a herbalist for a love charm.

One day, during an argument, Femi calls Funmi a murderer for killing Odun. Funmi fires back, saying they both killed him, unaware that Femi’s side chick, Banke, is listening outside. Banke barges in shouting, accusing Femi, and in anger Funmi hits her with a large piece of wood. Banke dies instantly, and they secretly bury her.

Back at home, Funmi cooks a delicious meal and remembers the charm the herbalist gave her. She adds it to Femi’s food. After eating, he begins coughing and collapsing. Realizing something is wrong, he uses his last strength to strangle Funmi. They both die, possibly because the herbalist mistake a love charm for a deadly one.

The movie teaches that karma is real. Even though Funmi was forced into the marriage and disliked it, Odun did not deserve to die. She could have left or filed for divorce, but she chose murder.

I rate the movie 6/10. I had been looking forward to watching it, thinking it would be more interesting, but I was disappointed. The storyline is not unique; it’s something we’ve seen many times before.
