Movie Review, Ms. Kanyin

Ms. Kanyin, I won't say this movie is interesting or not because it's somehow scary, and I don't watch scary movies. But for those who love scary movies, they might find it interesting. It was written by Tobe Otuogbodor.

The movie starts with a group of people traveling in a bush, seemingly in the olden days. They get to a mysterious tree, and the person taking them there warns them that they shouldn't be in that place because the tree is dangerous. However, their boss, a white man, refuses to listen and wants to make a video there, but he's killed by a strange hand.

Years later,a school has been built in that bush and the tree is now in the compound of that school. So in the secondary school, their are a group of friends preparing for their WASC exam. One of the friends, Amara, is planning to travel abroad to study in Harvard if only she passes her French exam. Another friend, Amanda, has been promised by her parents that she can study in the UK if she passes, and Utti hopes to win a scholarship if he passes. They're all studying hard, but French seems to be a challenge for them.

One day, the principal asks Ms. Kanyin, a trusted teacher, to keep the French question papers with her. Amara visits the principal's house to check her friend Chioma, the principal daughter and sees the question papers in Ms. Kanyin's hand. Ms. Kanyin drops the papers while running from the principal's dogs, and Amara picks them up but doesn't see the questions properly. Despite this, Amara continues to practice French on her own, answering questions and marking them herself, but still struggles.

Amara then approaches Ms. Kanyin for help, and to show her the question papers but she's refused and sent her away. The next day, Amara tells her friends about the question papers, and although they're initially hesitant, they eventually agree to steal the papers because they all need to pass their French exam. Amara involves Chioma, the principal's daughter, who has access to the teachers' lodge. They plan everything, with Chioma drawing the key and stealing one of Ms. Kanyin's keys. Amanda sews masks for them.

They target the day when one of the teachers, Mr. Mustapha, plans to take Ms. Kanyin out. However, Mr. Mustapha's car breaks down, and they have to return home. Ms. Kanyin notices someone has broken into her house and chases Amara, but Ms Kanyin falls and hits her head on a broken tree by the mysterious tree. Her blood splatters on the tree, and Ms. Kanyin's ghost starts killing the friends one by one.

The friends start dying, and the principal calls the police to look for Ms. Kanyin because they can't find her corpse. However, there's no trace of her. It's later revealed that the mysterious tree is cursed, that the blood of the person that touch the tree will hunt people, and the only solution is to burn it. Mr. Mustapha, Chioma, and Amara embark on this perilous journey, but it was not easy to burn the tree but they later survived in burning the tree. not everyone survives.

In the end, everyone involved in the plan loses their life except Chioma and Amara. Amara, who masterminded the plan, survives and even takes the exam, but she's already burned the stolen question booklet when her friend started dying. I love the storyline, although it's scary. The lesson learned is that if someone involve her friends in wrongdoing, they might not survive, but the person that involved them might survive you. So, be careful who you're friends with and the kind of thing they ask you do do for them. I rate this movie 8/10.
