What would be your reaction to a delicate situation in your child's health?

How would you feel about a child losing his or her life because his or her parents' health insurance does not cover heart surgery?

Imagine the actions you could take to save your child's life?

The answers to these questions constitute essential elements in the drama entitled Extreme Situation or John Q.

The film, main actors and synopsis

Genre: Drama and Suspense. Country: United States of America

Once again I bring you a movie in which one of the main actors is Denzel Washington who in this occasion plays John Q, a lower class American worker. He is accompanied in the main roles by Kimberly Elise who plays his wife and the child Daniel Smith who plays Michael Archibald, their son.

Synopsis: Michael is a seemingly healthy child who enjoyed the love and care of his parents John and Denise. It is a lower class family in the United States that has economic problems that cause problems in their lives. However, the family is happy because of their love for each other and for their child.

All this collapses when the boy collapses during a baseball game and is taken to a clinic where he is diagnosed with a heart problem and the only diagnosis is a heart transplant. When the diagnosis is relayed to the parents, the cost of the operation and that it cannot be covered by the parents' insurance, a series of actions are unleashed that really touched and moved my heart.

Scenes from the movie and teachings

This movie has several actions that leave us with different lessons. Among the most important ones I will keep these:

  • The sale of most of John Q's valuables, to try to raise the money for the operation.
  • The handing over of John and Denise's friends' savings to contribute to Michael's operation.
  • The indolence of the members of the clinic and their intransigence in not deciding to put the heart in the child because the insurance did not cover the operation.
  • The kidnapping of hostages by the boy's father, in an attempt to sensitize the clinic's staff to his son's problem.
  • John's support from the people who gathered in front of the medical clinic once the kidnapping case began to be broadcast by the media.

Many other scenes could be recounted, but I will refer to this one, which is one of the last, when the father decides to take his own life, so that his heart can be taken from him and given to his son, but .......

When I saw the movie I was able to draw several lessons from this film that has little fiction and much of reality:

  • The most precious thing a human being has is life and all the resources to take care of his health should be equally available to all. It is not possible that a human being has to be left behind, especially if it is a child.
  • Human health as a business and a commodity. This is intolerable and inadmissible.
  • The importance and value of friendship: It is key to see how their neighbors and closest friends gave their savings to help save the child's life.
  • How a human being can react when all doors are closed to him, especially if it is to save the life of a loved one.
  • Love for the family. Part of the final outcome is due to the love of the family.

    great

A final assessment

The story of the film shows us the harsh reality of such a vital issue as health. From the point of view of the staging is a marvel that catches the viewer from the beginning of the main plot of the film and is discovering the web that moves around the health and social security in many places.

Once again Denzel Washington demonstrates his great acting quality and makes us cry with him, be an accomplice of his kidnapping or try to donate our heart, through suicide. That's how excellent his performance was.

The ending was not as happy as the viewer would have liked because, despite saving the child's life, the father was taken to trial and of the three charges against him, he was acquitted on two, but found guilty on one.

This movie is worth watching and I recommend it because it addresses essential issues of our daily lives such as human health, the value of friendship and love of family.

for me it is one of the most moving movies for the simple reason, once again, family is the essence of life, and parents are able to overcome everything before their children. i consider myself a cinephile.

Although I have moved away from cinema for a while, I do like films that bring me something to the table and teach me. Likewise, I watch movies for their actors and this is one of my favorites. Happy week. Cheers and best regards.
