Hype to Hibernate : Vinland Saga Season 2 Slump.

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});

I had just recently finished watching some anime that I had downloaded on my Movie Box app, the likes of Solo Leveling, Demon Slayer, Mashle, etc., and I felt like since I was done with those anime, I should have some more downloaded so that when I am free, I can watch on my phone. Yeah… that was the idea. Then I went to the Neoxian Discord server to ask @justfavour for anime recommendations because he's also a fan of animation. After disturbing JustFavour for weeks for recommendations, he finally dropped about four of them on my WhatsApp DM. Okay… you know what's next? Download time.

I usually don't sleep at night, that's just me and it has come to be part of me and somehow, my body is getting used to it. Yeah, back to the bone of contention, the first anime he recommended was “Vinland Saga.” It had two seasons and yeah, I downloaded both seasons overnight using my Glo plan night subscription. I can't do downloads during the day 'cause that would mean that I am a rich person. Lol.

Now here's where the case lies…

I downloaded Vinland Saga and started the anime. I swear, the first season was so nice and captivating, each episode leaving me in suspense for what the next episode will bring. “Thorfinn” in the season was all I expected in a lead character, from being a little boy to being a teenager on the battlefield. His story kicked off with his father, Thors, who was once a great warrior but chose to live a peaceful life in Iceland but of course, peace does not last long in Viking stories, we know that one ….So Thors was tricked into going back to battle and got ambushed, he was killed in front of Thorfinn, and that pain and thirst for revenge drove Thorfinn through most of the season, this part here got me so good,like imagine a little boy of 6 surviving in the woods on his own , with only revenge fueling him..

Well,he ended up joining the band of mercenaries led by Askeladd, the same man who killed his father Thors … So instead of killing him outright, Thorfinn stayed close, growing stronger and then demanding duels with him over and over again, hoping to kill him fairly in battle, See there was so much rage in him , and the way the anime portrayed that inner conflict made it so real and raw .. the fights? They were Mad? The strategies? Too good. Everything about the season one just had me glued completely, I think I finished the season one under three days or less.

But you see that season 2? Hmm….. Omo let me not lie i had to force myself to finish watching it, Not because it was badly written per se o, but because the energy Thorfinn was giving in season one was not the same at all , He turned to mumu lol…. It was like he turned into a different person yeah….I mean, yeah, character development and all, but from hardcore warrior boy to quiet mumu ugly face farm boy? … Nah… It was slow-paced and it just did not give the same thrill….It just felt like I went from riding a big power bike at a very full speed to now pushing a wheelbarrow uphill. You get?

So my Discord friend @abdul-qudus even said he was already tired of watching it but just wanted to finish it because he had wasted his data to downloading it, yeah i could relate 100%, You don’t waste m
data for nothing, and JustFavour too, the one who had even recommended it, said he didn’t really enjoy season 2, .. the guys even said whether he asked us to watch it lol… he was like, "That's character development for you” and I was like It just watered down everything.

See I understand that they were trying to show growth, ehn.. like how Thorfinn was tired of violence and just wanted peace, but still , Omo the transition was too drastic… me I didn't like, they should have blended the growth better, like show us he still had his fire even if he wanted peace, you get? But nope, they turned him into a philosopher farmer.lol…. (I wish I could had emojis to show my reaction)

There were some deep conversations in the season, yes. Like how Thorfinn reflecting on his actions and trying to find meaning after all the bloodshed , But let me be honest, I missed the action, the tension, the revenge. Everything felt too calm, and that made it boring at times yeah ..I even started skipping some parts, like I played on time two, and if you know me, you know I rarely skip anime scenes, like never skip

But well, I finished it. At least now I can say I watched it all, For now, I am back to the Neoxian server, looking for the next anime to burn my night data on, Maybe this time, I will ask for something with both action and balance. Because abeg, midnight data is not to be wasted anyhow at all.

So Vinland Saga Season 1? 10/10, Vinland Saga Season 2? Hmm… maybe 5.5 or 6. But that’s just me sha.

😂. Me that I have watched Jujutsu episode one. I have abandoned Vinland with their season 2 saga oo, 😂. Rubbish.

Maybe I shoujd say the death of Askeladd ended the original movie, only if Askeladd was not a villain in the movie it might have made more sense

Your Vinland Saga review nails why it's so gripping—those intense emotional shifts and Thorfinn's growth hit me hard. I feel you on the hype to hibernate mood after binging; this show’s depth is exhausting but so rewarding.
