Now The Review

Bursting with eye-popping visuals and toe-tapping musical numbers, Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey is a vibrant 2020 holiday film that is bound to become a seasonal favorite. This magical story reminds audiences of all ages about the transcendent power of imagination and belief.

Jingle Jangle follows legendary toymaker Jeronicus Jangle (played with charisma by Forest Whitaker) who has fallen into despair, abandoning his once-wondrous toy shop in the charming town of Cobbleton. But when his vivacious granddaughter Journey arrives, her eternal optimism and determination help reawaken Jeronicus’s long-dormant creative spirit. Together, the unlikely duo works to resurrect the magic of both the past and the future.

However, their dreams are threatened by the villainous and vain Gustafson (a wickedly fun Keegan-Michael Key), who aims to become the world’s greatest and most feared toymaker through underhanded schemes. Yet with steadfast friends and townsfolk by their side, Jeronicus and Journey prove that integrity, hope and joy can defeat even the darkest of plans.

Bursting with effervescent musical numbers and stunningly crafted sets, writer/director David E. Talbert has spun a festive cinematic confection for the ages. Jingle Jangle reminds us that miracles can happen when you simply believe an uplifting message we could all use right now. This 2020 classic is bound to spark delight and maybe even nostalgia for childhood dreams in audiences for Christmases yet to come.

As a longtime lover of imaginative fantasy films, I was thrilled when saw this movie Netflix, I was just scrolling through when I found it and decided to see it, at first the title "Jingle Jangle" captivated me into the movie, then from the opening scenes unveiling the magical toy shop in the quaint town of Cobbleton, I was utterly captivated and filled with an inner glow of childlike wonder. I eagerly binged through the entire film in one sitting, utterly spellbound.

My smile only broadened as more secrets and contraptions were unveiled in Jeronicus’s workshop, like his mechanical matador doll Don Juan Diego. And the songs themselves had me humming along in glee during and long after viewing (I still find "Square Root of Possible” randomly popping into my head).

From its first musical bars to the cheerful community gathering over the end credits, Jingle Jangle gave me a glorious dose of holiday spirit at a time when I truly needed it. This is surely destined to be a timeless Christmas classic I will re-watch for many seasons to come.

I thought the proposal for this movie was really cool, but in my opinion, its execution was a little bit messy.
