For sci-fi and space lovers, this movie is for you. Halle Berry brought her acting glory to this movie. Moonfall is a movie about the moon almost colliding into earth, with chaos and destruction following. Let's dive into the plot.

Plot

The movie begins with 3 astronauts who went to space years ago, Brian Harper, Jocinda Fowler and Alan Marcus. They went to repair a damaged satellite. While the repair was going on, a strange black alien technology attack them. The alien technology killed Marcus and knocked Fowler unconscious. Brian had to watch everything. He was the only one that saw the alien technology.

After managing to steer the spaceship back to earth, with him and Fowler the only survivors, nobody back at home believed his story. NASA dismissed his claims. Brian lost his job, was disgraced, and the incident was blamed on him. Brian got divorced and his wife claimed custody of their only son.

Present day, K.C. Houseman, who is a megastructurist gains access to an advanced telescope. K.C has a conspiracy theory that the moon is moving out of its orbit. He also believes that the moon is a megastructure. K.C. made confirms that the moon is indeed moving out of orbit using the telescope. He tried severally to warn NASA about this discovery. But they paid him no attention. After several failed attempts to reach NASA, he decided to reach out to the disgraced Brian. Brian did not believe him and thinks K.C. is crazy.
NASA also makes the discovery about the moon shifting out of orbit.

Knowing that this discovery means that giant pieces of the moon would begin to fall to earth as the moon gets closer to earth, NASA decides to keep it secret to avoid panic. However, K.C. goes public with it. Panic ensues all over. The director NASA has no choice but to brief the public, trying to play down the situation but it doesn't work.

Jocinda, who is the deputy director of NASA launches a crew to the moon to investigate why the moon moved out of orbit. While the launched a probe into a hole the found in the moon, the crew was attacked by the alien technology while Jocinda and the other NASA staff back in earth were made to watch with horror on screen as the astronauts were killed.

As the moon falls closer to earth, gravitational disturbances become worse. Oceans begin to overflow, and the cities become flooded. People flee their homes.

Jocinda goes to meet a man called Holdenfield, who is a former NASA employee, and discovers that Brian Harper was indeed telling the truth years ago. NASA covered everything up. She discovered that the Apollo mission didn't really go as the story says. She finds out that the moon is the biggest cover up in human history.

Jocinda learns that the military built an EMP device years ago to dismantle the alien AI technology, but it was abandoned for budgetary reasons. She pleads with her ex husband who is a military chief to give her access to the EMP device. She also pleads that the military should not send nukes to the moon, because the fall out would be catastrophic.

Joe recruits Brian and K.C to help solve the problem. Three of them travel to the moon in an old a space shuttle with one engine damaged.
They make it to the moon and made their way inside a hole on the moon.

Inside the moon, it was revealed that the moon is something called a Dyson sphere. The dyson sphere had an AI operating system. The AI of the dyson sphere helped take them to safety while they were under attack from the alien technology. The AI also revealed to Brian that billions of years ago, ancestors of the humans built a sophisticated AI technology that went rogue.

This rogue AI technology sought to destroy every organic life. That's the origin of this alien technology. The human ancestors then built the moon as a way to preserve life. However, the rogue AI has been stealing the moon's energy which explains why the moon move out of orbit.

KC sacrifices himself by luring the rogue AI technology away with their ship since it is attracted to electrical activity. Then KC detonates the EMP.

Brian and Fowler return back to earth and reunite with their families. The moon returns back to orbit.

My thoughts and Conclusion

As a fan of science fiction, it is a really great movie. The cast really played their roles to the best of their capacity. The movie is mentally engaging with a lot of suspense in it. I always looked forward to what would happen next. The movie showed how much people are willing to save the planet even when the odds are against them.
