Disney Plus Under Fire from Parents Groups

Disney Plus was once the golden child of streaming services. It seemed that the House of Mouse could do no wrong. They had tons of children’s programming available for a very low price. The shows were great, and parents could easily trust their kids were not going to be shown content that was questionable for younger viewers. A digital babysitter if you will. Then changes were made to the content, even though options were made available to parents, it was not enough apparently.

Who knew adding content could be such a hassle

Disney Plus adds new content regularly, original and re-run content. This is great as it helps keep subscribers happy and bringing in new ones. Such as the new Chip & Dale’s Rescue Rangers movie – done in the style of Who Framed Roger Rabbit, simply fantastic (review coming soon).

Parents using Disney Plus have options to control what accounts see what kind of content. It is simple. Therefore, I am surprised they are under fire from the Parents Television and Media Council. Well, not really all that surprising, what do these groups do other than sit around and complain about what to complain about next?

The straw that broke the camel’s back

Apparently the movies that did it for the group that has nothing better to do than complain were Logan and Deadpool.

Both movies are rated R affairs. Duh.

“Three years ago, the Walt Disney Company made a promise to families: No R-rated movies on Disney+, they said. It’s a family-focused platform, they said. We have Hulu for our edgier adult fare, they said," the group's president, Tim Winter, said in a statement. "It turns out they were lying to us. After decades of corporate brilliance establishing itself as the world’s most trusted brand for families, today’s C-level suite at Disney has decided to flush it all down the toilet."

Why these groups cannot spend their time educating their members and others on enabling parental controls is beyond me. Instead, they must have their 15 minutes of fame complaining about inconsequential things.

Apparently companies cannot change their minds, cannot evolve their product, etc. What is your take on this, is the addition of TV-MA and Rated R content a deal breaker for you and Disney Plus?
