Who doesn’t love Ghostbusters? Not the one with the gorilla, I mean the one with Venkman, Slimer, Winston and other characters we followed through two 80s movies. In 1990 gamers saw the only version of Ghostbusters to officially grace Sega Genesis. Unfortunately, for whatever reason, Sega omitted a few things, such as Winston Zeddemore completely. I have no clue, nor really care at this point, as to why he was left out, there were a lot of things left out when you look at the larger picture there. 33 years later, fans have fixed these omissions with Ghostbusters Special Edition. Now, another edition of that special edition has been made available, sadly, only 15 copies of this version will ever be made, and one is already spoken for.

Adding content, fixing things up

I am not sure if Sega even had the option to base the game on either of the movies, or if they just wanted to offer fans a new adventure. No matter, the game is basically a new adventure in the Ghostbusters universe that has very little to do with the movies outside a few characters and weapons.

According to Ghostbusters News, Winston is not the only new character in Special Edition. Louis Tully from Ghostbusters II is also a playable, low stat, character. They recommend pairing him up with the new Nightmare Mode for added challenge for those that feel the game is too easy with the other characters.

Winston is rated medium but is gifted with a high jump. Also, there is a character specific, according to Ghostbuster News, graphic featuring Ernie Hudson. Nice touch there.

Physical Editions and more Special Editions

Toy Saurus Games Sales (Instagram) are responsible for making the physical copies of Ghostbusters Special Edition and Marshmallow Edition.

Special Edition features a glow in the dark slime green cartridge, new full color manual, and case.

Marshmallow Edition features new cover art and a special glow in the dark white slime (yes, it looks like what you are thinking it would look like).

The Marshmallow Edition is limited to 15 copies, all of which will be available to purchase at the Classic Console and Arcade Gaming Show (CCAG) on July 22nd in Cleveland Ohio. One copy has been donated to a raffle at this event.

I love the movies but never got into any of the games. What about you, are you a fan of Ghostbusters? Let me know who your favorite is in the comments below.
