Finally a solid Predator movie!
Now, this is one film I just couldn't wait to watch. And finally today I found the chance to do so.
The origin story of the Predator in the world of the Comanche Nation 300 years ago. Naru, a skilled warrior, fights to protect her tribe against one of the first highly-evolved Predators to land on Earth. story line from IMDB
I am a huge fan of the original predator movie and an even huger fan of the sequel. The 2018 film was meh, and although the alien versus predator films were fun they were totally forgettable.
I must admit I was a bit prejudiced before watching Prey, thinking it was going to be some stupid woke, girl power movie.
And boy oh boy, I'm glad I was wrong. Okay, the movie is not perfect. But despite certain flaws, it gets one thing right. It feels like a proper predator movie. And in my opinion the predator in this one was the coolest of them all.
The one thing I really hated is how the native Americans spoke...English. My guess it's this was done for budgeting reasons. Edit: Well, fuck me in the ass:
The film was shot in English and Comanche, with the entire cast performing an alternate all-Comanche dub of the film. Both language versions are available on Hulu source
Also I didn't like the reference at the ending of the movie. I won't give any spoilers, all I will say is that it felt a bit forced and definitely not canon.
Other than that. Great visuals, great cinematography, great music, great acting by the nobodies playing on the movie!
It's a pity this movie didn't came out on theaters and was only available for streaming. I would have loved to watch it on the cinema.
All in all, Prey gets a solid 7/10 from me. If you are a fan of the originals I think you will love it!
