Voltron. Defender of the universe

'from days of long ago, from uncharted region of the universe comes a legend.The legend of Voltron,the defender of the universe...

That voice over intro right there was all that matters to us that time as a kid. It signalled the beginning of our much loved cartoon, Voltron force.

Growing up we had very limited options as regards TV programmes for kids. There was no access to cable as well as satellite broadcast. We solely depended on state owned local station for our TV entertainment. At the time TV programming starts by 4pm and closes by 11pm same day.

Regardless, it was still fun as a child. Good thing, TV programmes starts with children cartoons. My best off course was Voltron. This was in the mid 1980's. Even till date I still search for one or two episodes on YouTube to watch.

The Voltron story is all about five robotic Lions and their drivers. There was the black lion, yellow lion, blue lion, red lion and green lion.

They come together to form a bigger Beast called Voltron.

They defend an imaginary planet called Aris. They were aways being attacked by an evil king called Zarkon who has vowed to conquer Aris.

Zarkon is aided by his son Prince Lotor, who is equally as evil as his dad. When you now add the evil witch Hagar, you can imagine what planet Aris and the Voltron force is up against.

They put up fearsome beasts called Ro-Beast from time to time, to fight Voltron and actualize their quest to conquer Aris. From one Ro-Beast to another, Zarcon and his allies keeps getting defeated by the force.

Three major highlights of this cartoon makes my day anytime am watching it.

The the opening voice over Signals the beginning of my happiness, lol. Also, when the battle gets too tough for the 5 lions, you will hear
'form feets and legs. Form arms and body, and I will form the head'. That's it, Voltron is unleashed. Woe betide the beast in front of it.

Lastly, when it's time to finish off the job, you will hear 'form blazing sword'. The Ro-Beast is as good as destroyed.

It was quite fun watching voltron. I later got to know that Voltron was an adaptation of a Japanese Robert anime series called King go lion. But then what does it matter,it was always a blast for kids at the time.
