Sweet Girl Review - The new Netflix original movie everyone is writing about!
I first read about Sweet Girl here on Hive. It was in a review and it made me kind of interested. I always enjoy action movies in which someone is killed or taken captive, and now someone is eager to get revenge, find the truth, or find the person that has been taken. I guess the first Taken movie was a perfect example of such a movie that I really enjoyed.
So when I read about Sweet Girl, I quickly realized that I wanted to give the movie a chance. Not because of Jason Momoa, because I am not a big fan of him as an actor, but because I found the story to be interesting!
What is Sweet Girl about?
A mum is dying of cancer, but the doctor tells them about a new medicine that will help her get well. In the last minute, the medicine is taken of the market, and instead of getting better, the mum dies. The husband knows that there is some "ugly" business in the background, and that is why they removed the medicine from the market, and now he promises to revenge the death of his wife on the leader of the company.
One day he receives a phone call from a journalist who says that he can prove foul play. He decides to meet with the journalist, but things suddenly turn way more brutal than he expected.
In the midst of this time, there is a daughter in the family who is very close to both her mother and father. When the mother dies, she gets even more close to her father. She follows her father to the meeting with the journalist (without her father knowing about it), and this will greatly impact her life as well!
The turning point
None of the reviews I read spoiled the story, and I am grateful for that. But I watched the entire movie knowing that there was supposed to be a very interesting twist somewhere making it worth the while.
To be honest, I found the movie to be quite boring, so if I hadn't been warned beforehand about the twist, I probably would have stopped watching, or just jumped to the last 15 minutes to see how it would end. But, I kept up... I found the twist... and even though it was interesting, I still ended up with a feeling that this was a boring experience.
The movie simply didn't manage to get into a good pace, and I just felt like I had ignorant feelings throughout the entire ride. 20 minutes before the end (when it is supposed to be the most exciting) my wife told me that she didn't bother watching anymore, so she went and did something else. So, there I was sitting, finishing the movie on my own.
It wasn't a terrible movie, but nothing I will remember for a very long time.
My Sweet Girl score: 5/10
Do you agree with me? Did you like it? Were you bored? I would love to hear from you!
I haven't seen it yet, I haven't even seen the trailer. I saw that the ratings on movie sites are not very good, I don't like the actor very much, but I will try to see it in the next few days.
You will not miss out on much if you decide to watch something else instead! :)
