Comedy seems to be one of the most difficult genres to achieve, especially when combined with another subject of great difficulty. It is not easy to combine thriller, police mystery, humor, and tragedy, and even less so when dealing with a rather serious subject that is already cliché and, at the same time, very serious in the country in which it unfolds.
To explore avant-garde cinema, it is necessary to keep in mind that not all of them have the same subtlety and wit, in my case I always do it without expectation, and then, at the end, I grant my conclusions as flashes that inhabit my mind quickly. This film came to me unexpectedly, with a well-encompassed story, but that does not end up curdling very well, there are also concepts that I failed to see, perhaps a person more diligent in the genre if you get it, but in my particular case, I could not find anything.

La comedia me parece uno de los géneros más difíciles de lograr, especialmente cuando se combina con otro tema de gran dificultad. No es una tarea sencilla combinar thriller, misterio policíaco, humor y tragedia, y menos cuando se trata de un tema bastante serio que ya es cliché y, al mismo tiempo, muy serio en el país en el que se desenvuelve.
Para explorar el cine vanguardista, es necesario tener en cuenta que no todos tienen la misma sutilidad e ingenio, en mi caso lo hago siempre sin expectativa, y luego, al final, otorgo mis conclusiones finales como flashes que habitan en mi mente con rapidez. Esta película llegó a mí de manera inesperada, con una historia bien abarcada, pero que no termina de cuajar muy bien, también hay conceptos que no logré ver, quizás una persona más asidua en el género si lo consiga, pero en mi caso particular, no pude encontrar nada.

Plot
The story follows Juan Pablo, a young man who receives a scholarship to study for a doctorate in literature in Barcelona, Spain. The young man seemed to have a promising life, which he wanted to live with his girlfriend Valentina, but things get messy when his cousin, who was in cahoots with a criminal organization, gets him involved in a complex project of the organization.
Threatened by the organization's leader, who uses the pseudonym "El Licenciado", Juan Pablo receives detailed instructions to approach a girl in Barcelona named Laia Carbonell, who turns out to be a key player in the criminal organization's project. As he gets more and more involved in this delicate situation, Juan Pablo is writing the novel he always wanted while his life is subjected to circumstances that gradually become dangerous. Now, not only will he have to protect his family and his girlfriend, but he will also have to find a way to survive Licenciado's evil.

La historia sigue a Juan Pablo, un joven que recibe una beca para estudiar un doctorado de literatura en Barcelona, España. El muchacho parecía tener una vida prometedora, la cual deseaba vivir junto a su novia Valentina, pero las cosas se ponen turbias cuando su primo, quien estaba confabulado con una organización criminal, lo involucra para que sea parte de un complejo proyecto de la misma.
Amenazado por el líder de la organización, el cual usa el seudónimo “El Licenciado”, Juan Pablo recibe detalladas instrucciones para acercarse a una chica en Barcelona llamada Laia Carbonell, quien resulta ser una pieza clave para el proyecto de la organización criminal. Mientras es inmiscuido cada vez más en esta delicada situación, Juan Pablo va escribiendo la novela que siempre quiso a la vez que su vida se somete a circunstancias que ascienden gradualmente a peligrosas. Ahora, no solo deberá proteger a su familia y a su novia, sino que tendrá que buscar la forma de sobrevivir a la maldad del Licenciado.
My opinion
It is very difficult for me to connect with certain types of stories when you are not understanding anything at the beginning, and I wish it had been the first thirty minutes, but it wasn't like that, I lasted an hour and a half to understand this movie. I can't complain about the cinematography, which I thought was very good, with those gloomy tones that perfectly matched the strong plot.
I am not a fan of this kind of feature film and this work did not make me change my mind. I found it boring, absurd, insipid, and not very understandable; it didn't understand well what it wanted to expose. It is supposed to be a tragicomedy, but the film has so many genres intermingled, that I failed to grasp the concept of humor other than a few jokes and atypical situations.
The use of stereotypes as an element of mockery did not seem good to me, nor did the jokes that were intended to be portrayed in each scene. The film was too serious to understand what it wanted to convey, I couldn't get into anything and I was just asking for it to end. The performances, on the other hand, seemed good, although limited, I know the actors Natalia Solían (Huesera) and Darío Yazbek (La Casa de las Flores), both are very good and I know they can offer spectacular acting skills, however, in this film, I did not fully understand the meaning of their characters, the things they did, the jokes, the dialogues, the implausibility of their actions, accompanied by background music that produced a feeling, more than burlesque, gloomy. I didn't understand what was going on until the last act of the film, which is where everything unfolds more clearly.
I had already been warned that this film doesn't work with everyone, and yes, they were right, it didn't grab me at all. The satirical and black humor jokes I can understand, but from my perspective, I feel that the director didn't know how to embrace them. The atmosphere of seriousness that enveloped the film was so dense, that the jokes, instead of being funny, were rather offensive. As a suspense thriller, perhaps it works well, using the comedy only as a very thin curtain, which, instead of producing a sense of pleasure, the only thing it achieved in me is repulsion.
Mi opinión
Es muy difícil para mí conectarme con cierto tipo de historias cuando no estás entendiendo nada al principio, y ojalá que hubiera sido los primeros treinta minutos, pero no fue así, duré una hora y media en entender esta película. No puedo quejarme de la fotografía, que me pareció muy buena, con esos tonos lúgubres que compaginaban perfectamente con la fuerte trama.
No soy fan de este tipo de largometrajes y esta obra no me hizo cambiar de opinión. Me pareció aburrida, absurda, insípida, poco entendible; no se entendió bien lo que se quiso exponer. Se supone que es una tragicomedia, pero la película tiene tantos géneros entremezclados, que no logré captar el concepto de humor más que unos chistes y situaciones atípicas.
El uso de los estereotipos como elemento de burla no me pareció bueno, tampoco las bromas que se intentaban retratar en cada escena. La película era demasiado seria como para entender lo que quería transmitir, no logré afincarme a nada y solo pedía que esto terminara. Las actuaciones, por otra parte, me parecieron buenas, aunque limitadas, conozco a los actores Natalia Solían (Huesera) y Darío Yazbek (La Casa de las Flores), ambos son muy buenos y sé que pueden ofrecer habilidades actorales espectaculares, sin embargo, en esta película, no entendía del todo el sentido de sus personajes, las cosas que hacían, las bromas, los diálogos, la inverosimilitud de sus actos, acompañado de una música de fondo que producía una sensación, más que burlesca, tétrica. No entendí lo que en realidad estaba pasando hasta el último acto de la película, que es donde se desarrolla todo con más claridad.

I Don't Expect Anyone To Believe Me is a thriller and the only powerful sensation it provoked in me was boredom. I haven't read the original work by writer Juan Pablo Villalobos, but I'm sure that director Fernando Frías de la Parra didn't know how to transmit the humor of the book to the feature film. The plot is not that good, and I found it too difficult to bond with it. Maybe it's just me, I'm not used to avant-garde cinema and its way of exposing stories, but what I'm sure of, is that it's one of the worst movies I've seen on Netflix.
If you like thrillers that expose traces of humor over a cloud of suspense, maybe this movie will catch you, in my case it did not produce such an effect, and I felt I lost almost two hours of my life.

No voy a pedirle a nadie que me crea es un thriller que la única sensación poderosa que me provocó, es la de aburrimiento. No he leído la obra original del escritor Juan Pablo Villalobos, pero estoy seguro de que el director Fernando Frías de la Parra no supo transmitir el humor del libro al largometraje. La trama no es tan buena, y se me hizo demasiado difícil vincularme con ella. Tal vez sea solo yo, que no estoy acostumbrado al cine vanguardista y su manera de exponer las historias, pero de lo que sí estoy seguro, según yo, es que es una de las peores películas que he visto dentro de Netflix.
Si te gustan los thrillers que exponen trazos de humor sobre una nube de suspenso, quizás esta película te atrape, en mi caso no produjo tal efecto, y sentí que perdí casi dos horas de mi vida.
