UNSTOPPABLE (2018)

I happen to come across a YouTube short about top 10 Korean movies I should watch so I decided to check it out. They all seemed interesting but I seemed to be more interested in about three of them and I went with Unstoppable. It's a South Korean movie released in 2018. The movie was written and directed by Kim Min-ho.

We have Don Lee (who is one of my favorite Korean actor) who plays character of Dong-Chul. Dong-Chul is works in seafood distribution who once lived a gangster type of lifestyle but dropped that lifestyle after getting married to his wife Ji-Soo.

Things were going just fine until Ji-Soo gets abducted by a human trafficking ring. Dong-Chul tries everything to get his wife back. He initially tried playing by the rules by involving the police but then he loses faith in them after finding out that they still had lots of similar cases of abduction of young ladies which were still unsolved. This leaves Dong-Chul no choice but to take matters into his hands. This means him unleashing the beast he had locked up for a while.

The movie is packed with action most especially, thriller, and some portions of comedy as well and I love the way the blended them perfectly at intervals in the movie. It's like half of the movie gave us the good side of Dong-Chul while the remaining half showed us his brutal side which was Unstoppable and I liked that aspect of him better.

I must admit I didn't quite get how the title of the movie rhymed with the movie until this part of him was unleased. But I guess he still has some shreds of mercy in him and that must have been as a result of the sweet soul he took as a wife. It may sound crazy but I would say the gangster life he lived wasn't a bad thing at all because at the end of the day he played the role of a hero because it wasn't just his wife that he saved from the hands of the human traffickers but also the other girls who were victims.

I think the actor just possesses that aura which really matched the character he was playing in the movie. Well, it wasn't amongst the best of Don-Lee's movie that I've seen but it wasn't a waste of time at all and I totally understood because it was released way back as at 2018.

There was a point in the movie where I think they made a mistake or something. It was when Dong-Chul was trying to get information from one of the drug trafficker's boys and he locked the door behind them. Then a few minutes later someone came into the room which was supposedly locked without any force or breaking the door. I tried to see how that made sense but I just couldn't find out.

Even though the movie was four minutes away from being two hours it still felt like an hour and few minutes. It guess that's because it was quite an interesting film to watch. It's a kind of film I would totally recommend to watch. I give Unstoppable 6.8/10. That's it for today's review, see you next time!
